As Instrumentality continues, Shinji feels he can disappear from existence because he is unwanted. Without piloting Eva, he is useless, without an identifier. Now in a world of nothingness, with no restrictions, he can do anything, but without others he has no identity. After a glimpse at one possible existence, he realizes that the way the world is seen can change through different perceptions and that there could be value in living.
A widely followed TV animation series with fascinating characters, a captivating sci-fi premise, dynamic battle scenes, and a super-high density of information that incorporates Judeo-Christian concepts and psychoanalysis as only a few of the elements that allowed Neon Genesis Evangelion to… More surpass the realm of all anime that had come before it and made a work worthy of the title "New Century (Neon Genesis)." The show began airing in October 1995 with the planning, original story and production handled by GAINAX, who had previously worked on such shows as Wings of Honneamise and Nadia: The Secret of Blue Water . Hideaki Anno, a representative creator of GAINAX, was at the heart of the production work and his individuality colors every aspect of the show. A manga version by Yoshiyuki Sadamoto began running one month prior to the series premiere and new chapters are still being produced. Neon Genesis Evangelion had the ardent support of fans, and its popularity boomed even after it finished its first run in March of 1996. Its influence was not limited to anime fans but also spread to the general populace, and it was even called the third impact, following Space Battleship Yamato and Mobile Suit Gundam . At the height of the Eva boom in 1998, the theatrical Death and Rebirth and The End of Evangelion were released. The theatrical releases were created as a separate version of the climax depicted in the TV series. Four movies retelling the story of Evangelion (without GAINAX) are to follow in the coming years. A good place for any Evangelion related information is the Neon Genesis Evangelion Wikipedia page .
Wikipedia says that the second film in the Rebuild of Evangelion tetralogy is coming out in 2008. Basically that means that its supposed to come out from now in June 2008 all the way through December 2008, but does anyone know an exact date in which the second film Evangelion: 2.0 Division is… More supposed to be released. I'm not trying to rush the development team but I just really want to know an exact date so that I could begin the countdown. In two months now, it would be a year since the first film was produced, hopefully it won't take a year to show the last two films as well. If only someone knew when the second film will be released and provide me the link where you found the information. EL4L
or does anyone still care about this show?? .. I guess it will die out eventually
I have heard many great things about this anime, but once i finished watching it i was disappointed. I felt that in the begining the characters had a lot of room to grow, but they never really did so. They just stayed the same, and then got depressed, which was just kinda pathetic. I thought the… More whole story was also very cool, but the climax or the ending just ruined it. It was hard for me to even watch the last two episodes. I have seen MUCH better anime than this, and I have even seen some very similar to this with just a better story overall. If you remotely liked this I would highly recommend Eureka 7, as i was completely reminded of it throughout the show. Its plot is definitely not as dark, and as interesting, but the characters are just great and its a fun anime to watch. Overall, I would give this anime a 6/10 (I would have given it a 7 or 8, but I just thought the ending was awful)
An excellent example of good anime. hide show
Now alot of people slate this show and I don't quite know why. It is a great show that (in my mind) pushes the boundaries of the mind to near breaking point. The only reason that I have given it a 9.5 instead of a 10 is the confusing but innovative ending. I personaly don't quite know what they were tring to tell us with it, possibly that no-one is alone? Well that is for the individual to decide and that is one thing no-one can take away from you. To sum up this show is only what you make of it but it would be a shame not to watch it just because of a few bad reviews.
In future Japan, something called Angels are trying to destroy humanity altogether. Evangelions have been built for protection – piloted by carefully selected teenagers – but what is the actual story behind the Evangelions? hide show
I watched the show with its original Japanese voices. Not that it matters, concerning the story itself, I think.
Neon Genesis Evangelion started out pretty well, grew stronger as if went, but honestly, the last four or so episodes totally threw me off the track – and not in the good way. Perhaps they were trying to dig too deep into the meanings of this anime series; into all those various psychological aspects. In my eyes, it was the worst ending possible.
Either way, NGE looks good, and the characters get to evolve a little too. Most of them don't go too overboard, either. The art quality is the same from end to beginning, and very enjoyable to watch. Any-one who enjoys anime should like this one.
Guess since I read some of the ratings and latest reviews I'll just have to defend this show. Something, I just thought it needn't to be done...Geez. What's wrong with you people? hide show
So why is it special, so why have so critical and popular acclaim? Mainly because it a trend setter. With Akira, and Ghost in the shell is one of those things that you really don't fully understand but internally you do.
Superficially, the story is pure sci-fi. So those of you who complain about robotic angels and kids with the ability to control them are just not getting the point. It's called suspension of disbelief. I mean, why do you watch anime in the first place??
Second of all, the story, and I'm still talking surface has enough mistery, plot twist, character development and a fricking surprising ending that only for that you should be grateful.
But the pure genious of this anime resides in every little detail, every shot, every drawing. This show is the final argument in favor of the seriousness of anime. Of the capacity of giving drama, at putting human emotions to the limit.
This series is philosophical, is deep, real real real deep. maybe you don't share it, maybe you just think its all a big joke. But give a chance. The same exact way you sit in front of your Tv when someone said that ypu HAD to watch Magnolia. You must approach this as a piece of art or you won't enjoy it. You won't understand why there is such a fuss, and why this is still the no 1 anime in every list year after year.
This isn't comparabile to Naruto, or Bleach...It surpasses them in every way. It lacks some of its qualities too. Evangelion isn't something (for me at least) that I watch every 2 weeks. It's something I watch only once a year to appreciate it in all its breath taking glory.
Am I exagerating? Quite possibly but I really don't give a damn. It's insulting to have 3 reviews in this page so painfully intolerant, with so little effort to try to understand why so many of us love this show. Give it a chance. But with the attitude it deserves. If you still don't like it, I'm still telling you would grade with a 7
I just don't understand why everyone seems to love this... it is the least sensical thing ever made! hide show
The plot (and I use that term very loosely because I am not entirely sure there is one), focuses on a young man called Shinji who is recruited to pilot a starnge biomechanical monster called eve and fight against other weird monsters. The show is filled with freudian psychoanalysis and pseudo-sexual garbage as well as thinly veiled insults aimed primarily at western religions. The characters are annoying and the storyline falls apart totally after about 4 episodes and the plot holes are filled by non-sensical dialogue.
The only reason I even bothered to sit through the whole thing or gave it such a high rating is because it has had such an impact on popular culture world wide (although why remains a mystery!).
Flying robot angels, A boy who's going to be driven insane and girls who you know aren't virgins....i'm gonna like this. hide show
This show, just like the catagory I gave it, is OFF THE F**KIN WALL! When I first saw this episode, it made no sense to me. Why is this boy, who's never heard of the company his dad WORKS for, having to control robots who, once you get into the series, turn out to be ANGELS?!?!
This show at first will make no sense to you but if you give it a few chances it should come around. Now, if you have a crush on Auska(and you know you do), DO NOT watch "the end of evangelion". My friend says she does come back at the end but you get to witness her death. This show will take over your mind and soon you will start to listen to Linkin Park.
