10 Things I Hate About You announces cast

Lindsey Shaw

A few years ago, if someone said ABC Family was producing some of the best television in the industry, my monocle would fall out and I would spit out my Earl Grey tea. But the evidence is there--Greek, The Middleman, The Secret Life of the American Teenager have all surprised TV land, and are generally kicking some serious booty.

It's reasonable to believe (with a little faith), then, that ABC Family's next show will also be a big deal to tweens and grown-ups with tween tastes (guilty), and its cast will launch into superstardom as Scott Michael Foster, Spencer Grammer, and Shailene Woodley are bound to.

10 Things I Hate About You is in development at ABC Family, and its cast has been announced, says The Hollywood Reporter. Leading the way is Ethan Peck, who has a limited credits list but did play a young Kelso in That '70s Show. But if his name sounds familiar, it's because he's the grandson of legendary actor Gregory Peck.

Also on board is Lindsey Shaw, whom we last saw (and loved) as Claire Tolchuck in The CW's Aliens in America. Before that, she starred in Ned's Declassified School Surivial Guide.

10 Things I Hate About You is a small-screen adaptation of the 1999 film of the same name, which starred Julia Stiles and Heath Ledger. Shaw will play Kat, one of two sisters facing the social challenges of high school. Peck will play the brooding Patrick, an outsider who tempts and torments Kat. Also cast in the program are Meaghan Jette Martin, Kyle Kaplan, and Nicholas Braun.

No premiere date has been set yet for 10 Things I Hate About You, but we'll be watching when it does.

There is a reason this story was only told in 90 minutes or so...

It won't last long. The movie was great but a tv show how long can you go with it.

If it has the same humor and style of the movie, with maybe a little less teen-movie in it, I think it might be interesting...

The movie was very good, there was no need to do a series about it.

I dont think this will come anything close to the film. The cast doesn't really intrique me to watch the series, so i doubt that i will watch this show.

that film is an iconic teen film.....why even try to copy that into a tv series?, kinda like trying to serialize the Breakfast Club. No one will ever beat Heath Ledger,Julia stiles,Joseph gorden levitt, ect.

Honestly, I don't see how this works as a television show. Patrick torments Kat... That just isn't true, he tries to get her to date him, torment in a high school enviroment makes me think of an arch nemesis sort of relationship, not the romantic effort present in the movie, granted he was doing it for money but still he was trying to woo her not ruin her life. I'm ok with ABC Family having original Programming but for Christ's sake why can't they come up with something original. It feels as if they are just using the title to gather viewers for what sounds like a mediocre show, which spits on the memory of Heath Ledger, and judging by the other posts here that's exactly what its doing

I wouldn't think this would work, but a fews ago if someone told that there would be an amazing TV series based on Friday Night Lights I wouldn't have believed you.

Well let's not get ahead of ourselves "Ten Things I Hate About You" could be a dud for ABC Family, but I'm sure teenagers will tune in.

I might actually tune into this ABC Family show since I loved the movie, but the plot could be stale and slow. I guess I'll wait and see!

I'm not sure how the dynamic of the characters will work as a series instead of a movie. It might get old pretty fast.
