CBS has made its first decision of the fall, picking up comedy 2 Broke Girls for a full season. This is hardly a surprise, given that the show has been the network's best new performer and has settled in quite nicely on Mondays next to the resurgent Two and a Half Men.
2 Broke Girls' most recent episode, which aired Monday, drew 11.42 million viewers and notched a hefty 4.5 rating, the latter figure being the important one for CBS as the network tries to bring in younger viewers. And one way to do that is to throw Kat Dennings on-screen in strategically unbuttoned waitress outfits.
So far, there have been four pickups at the major networks, and all of them are half-hour comedies: 2 Broke Girls joins Fox's New Girl and NBC's Whitney and Up All Night in the "We'll Be Here All Season" club. All four shows are comedies with female leads and female target audiences. And two of them are Whitney Cummings projects: She's the star of Whitney and the creator of 2 Broke Girls.
We thought 2 Broke Girls was okay—for a predictable comedy cluttered with a laugh track. What do you think?
