20 Beloved TV Characters Who've Died and Come Back to Life (PHOTOS)

Warning, this story contains spoilers for Sunday's Game of Thrones finale! Turn back now if you do not wish to be spoiled.

I think I speak for everyone when I say:

A beloved character's watch ended in the final moments of Sunday's Game of Thrones Season 5 finale, and whether or not you choose to believe Kit Harington's Jon Snow has been reunited with Robb, Catelyn, and Ned or if he'll be resurrected come Season 6 (what other purpose is there for Melisandre to be at the Wall?), his death was a huge blow for the series. Jon Snow may have known nothing, but he was the most heroic and honorable character in the series, and possibly all of Westeros. He truly was too precious for this world, one of the last good and noble men, so let's indulge ourselves in a little fantasy and pretend he's not gone for good by remembering our other favorite television character who've died, or seemingly died, and come back to life.

There are a lot of characters who've returned from the dead. Did we forget your favorite? Shout it out in the comments and we may add it to the gallery!

Sorry, I know this has been mentioned a few times already. But why make a list of characters who died and came back and not even mention Daniel Jackson from Stargate SG-1 yet you put in guys like Sisko from Flash, who didnt really die (unless we count an alternate universe)? Jackson didnt die once, nor two times, nor three, he actually died four times + a few more that he died within a few other episodes and was revived right away! Cant really top that, and he doesnt even make the list? Weird.

Captain Jack Harkness would be a perfect candidate for the list. Gunshots, impalements, and even bombs can't stop this charismatic time agent. Death is part of everyday life when he's on the job.

So you mentioned Sara Lance, from Arrow, along with Thea Queen, and possibly Malcolm Merlyn, but isn't there still at least one name conspicuously absent from this list? Or doesn't having Ra's al Ghul put a sword through the middle of Oliver's chest and push him off a cliff on a snow covered mountain count? And after the way this last season ended, for both Arrow and the Flash, how many more are going to need reviving next year? Just curious. (Although the question is kinda academic when the Flash can turn back time whenever he wants... What if this whole season was just a dream?)

I'm surprised the characters of 'Charmed' weren't mentioned. The Halliwell Sisters have died almost 2 dozen times between the four of them; admittedly only Prue died permanently and generally they were somehow resurrected in the course of the episode, but still some impressive feats.

No Xena? She died multiple times! The "Ides of March" (4x21) is still one of the best pay off in a season long plotline.

Audrey Parker - Haven
Malcolm Danvers - Bitten
the main character's (Emily? Amanda? Emanda?) dad - Revenge
Ichabod Crane - Sleepy Hollow (but that's the entire premise of the story so...)
I gave up and quit watching, but it seems likely that *someone* on OUaT has resurected

Depending on the rules you have 4 from Alias:
Sydney Bristow - Her death was faked by the Covenant and she went undercover for 2 years.
Michael Vaughn - Death faked by the Bristows to protect him from Prophet 5.
Nadia Santos - Never actually resurrected but her ghost tormented Sloane.
Arvin Sloane - Killed by Jack and resurrected by the Rambaldi device.

Also depending on the rules:
Pete Latimer from Warehouse 13 - Killed in the opener for season 4 before Artie reset time.
HG Wells from Warehouse 13 - Sacrificed herself for the team in the season 3 finale. Saved when Artie resets time.
Booth on Bones - Fakes his shooting death by a stalker to catch someone in the next episode.
Prentiss on Criminal Minds - Her death is faked to protect her from a terrorist cell she infiltrated when working for Interpol. Returned over a year later.

I like your comment, but I don't know if it counts due to the sheer number of how many times Henry died and came back in the series.

Could make an argument for his death in the last episode though.

If he doesn't count then neither does Kenny from South Park or for that matter the Winchesters. With Supernatural you even had an entire episode that was dedicated to new ways to kill Dean.

I sense a pattern here, or dare I say, "agenda." ;-)

I'm going to include Doctor Who, whose "regenerations" require him to be brought to the brink of death, maybe even brush against it, before coming back as someone different. (Certainly if just faking one's death counts, this should?)

Also, on American Horror Story: Coven: Misty Day (Lily Rabe) and Madison (Emma Roberts). (If only we had known any of the pieces of Kyle beforehand, I could include him, too. :-)

What confuses me is why they chose to end it with him seemingly dead, I don't know how in this day and age they expect to bring him back without everyone knowing about it way before hand. There will have to be snuck set photos, at the very least the locals will know if he's there shooting, there will be a big gap in his schedule where shooting for GoT coincidental coincides, and I don't know how they'll promote it without having Jon show up. Unless he's just in like one scene in the whole season and gets brought back at the very end which they could have shot when they were filming season five and kept it on the down low, I don't know how they'll keep it a secret in which case the apparent cliffhanger seems unneccisary. Thoughts?

Jack Bauer, Tony Almeida - 24
Arvin Sloan - Alias
Gregory House doing his Sherlock Holmes impression - House
The Charmed Ones - Charmed
Mona, Alison - Pretty Little Liars (do these even count considering neither died but presumed dead?)
Claire Bennett - Heroes
Pretty much Everyone from Smallville
Jim from Ghost Whisperer (Again would this count considering it was a very convoluted storyline)
Derek from Terminator TSCC
Tom from Invasion
Heather from Jericho (does that count?)
Harrison & Jensen from Tru Calling

We've lost count how many times these boys have died over the last 10 years. They probably have, too"

And that is why i believe that when one of them does die in the end, it will mean fuck all

How people can defend this travesty of a show in it's current state is so beyond belief

Sherlock's death is part of the stories so it's to be expected. But Moriarty is good and well dead.

Captain Jack Harkness died many times and came back to life.

I actually thought about adding Jack Harkness, but decided against it since he became immortal after he died that first time. I wasn't playing with any hard rules in the list, but that one sort of felt like cheating a bit.

Then you have Barrowman's other back-from-the-dead character, Arrow's Malcolm Merlyn.

(Although maybe superhero and supernatural shows should be exempted from the list, since a shorter list for them would be characters who actually stay dead.)

Oh, and can I say Starbuck here gives me my private little paranoid reassurance as I wouldn't be surprised Kit is doing the same thing (and that I believe he is likely Aziz Ahai or whatever and so isn't exactly Jon anymore but something more) but I also have to admit and I imagine if you look at my profile this is especially odd, but I've never watched Battlestar. I know, I know. But it came on at a time where Sy Fy was really silly, various Star Trek iterations had worn me down on space based sci fi, and Buffy was ending and I was thinking I needed to watch more appropriate shows. So, like Grey's was beginning and hell, I was in law school, I didn't have a lot of time or money. And its seems emotionally daunting to go through now.

Yup haha! Also people aren't really considering the fact that Kit Harrington could possibly be pulling a Bran (taking a season off.) Kit & the producers have said "he's dead, hes not coming back" but I feel like there is more to it than that. Of course he's dead, doesn't mean he cant be resurrected. But when that happens is an entirely different question. Micheal Shanks took a season off and then came back. I just don't see the White Walker plot or even the show itself going well without Jon Snow.

Rory was handled excellently, that was downright beautiful.

Phil Coulson was alright with me as well.

The rest that I have seen range from terrible to downright awful, with Sherlock's fake death and Starbuck's real death being the absolute worst of the worst in my book.

I think there's at least one character in every sci-fi/fantasy show that does that. It would be more amazing finding 20 characters who died and *stayed* dead, and never came back at all, not even in flashbacks.

Anyway, here's my little contribution for the characters that did come back.

What about animals that came back to life? I bet there aren't many.

I totally had to go look up the circumstance of Sara Tancredi's missing year when I rewatched Prison Break recently (it wasn't totally to do with contract dispute, she was pregnant, though I think the contract came up when they wanted her to be a guest star just to appear in the kidnapping scenes, which became funny because she did them for Season 4 and then the show suffered under the stupid writer's strike which I don't know how many people notice accompanied the rise of the Kardashians). But that whole Panama season should really be forgotten about, I mean, really.
