24 adds Freddie Prinze as Bauer wannabe

Prinze, Freddie Prinze.

Oooh, look who's a tough guy. 24 has added Freddie Prinze, Jr. as the newest agent in the Counter Terrorism Unit. The move comes a day after it was announced the show was adding two other actors, John Boyd and Jennifer Westfeldt.

Prinze will play the very CTU-sounding Davis Cole, a former Marine who takes over the CTU Field Ops, says The Hollywood Reporter. But Cole has grand ambitions: he is grooming himself to be the next Jack Bauer (played by Kiefer Sutherland).

Prinze jumped into Hollywood as a dreamboat in various teen-oriented movies such as I Know What You Did Last Summer and She's All That. He's also married to Buffy the Vampire Slayer star Sarah Michelle Gellar.

Hmmm… do you think Prinze can really pull off the macho needed to be a CTU agent?

U gotta b KIDDIN' !!! Freddie Prinze Jr as a Jack Bauer wannabe ???... Come on !!! I mean, nothing personal but I think it'll take WAY much more than just great directing 2 get rid of his GOOFY look. If there r many great actors who could join the cast (Roy Dupuis, Oded Fehr... just 2 name a few) why in GOD'S name would they go 4 FPJr ???... His performance is YET 2 b seen but quite frankly, I don't think he'll b BELIEVABLE in that role.

I remember a few scenes in a pretty decent comedy named "head over heels" in which FPJ played a ambiguous hero/villain role where it turned out he was an agent working for the government. Maybe it was the direction and the camera but in some of those scenes he looked pretty menacing and calculating. He has the skills to pull it off if the director pushes him.

Hahaha....I like him and all and think that he was great on Boston Legal as Shatner's son, but the thought of him doing action in a non goofy way (like in Scooby Doo) does not seem like it will end well

YAAAAY to Freddie. I loved him in the Scooby Doo movies :)

I think he will do fine. yes I am a Scooby-Doo fan and yes I am a Buffy The Vampire Slayer fan, but I think Freddie will do ok. he might not be the original Jack Bauer and no one will be better at being Jack then Kiefer, but I think Freddie should get a chance.

Are you serious? Freddie Prinze Jr??? The producers couldn't find anyone better than Freddie??? Kiefer is such a bada** and his shoes are hard to fill!!!

  • speedforce131

I'm confident that Freddie will do fine, in fact I'm kinda excited that we're gonna see another talented agent. I like Renee, but she didn't go crazy like Jack (at least not until the end) and even then she still has a lot to learn still.

I suppose he needs the extra scratch, what with Chico III on the way and all.

I don't se him making it to the season finale :) Just another actor which will die in a heroic way...

My initial reaction was sceptical at best, but then again I think that Prinzey is a good actor but he has never done anything like 24 before, in fact I do not remember him ever doing anything serious before, oh wait, was I not supposed to laugh my way through IKWYDLS? Anyways, he might surprise, I mean if a hobbit can work on 24 then who knows what else might.

I love Freddie, not a huge fan of 24

I'm willing to give him a chance. There are a lot of people to get roles on 24 who I think wont' be any good but usually turn out to be quite good. Freddie was good on Boston Legal. He's now 33 years old and needs to break out of that "teen" mold he's been in and do some serious adult roles. As for him being the next Jack Bauer, I don't think so. Nobody can take Kiefer's place. But it sounds like he's gonna want to be the lead figure in authority, stepping on Jack's toes and that should make for an interesting storyline. I read someplace that he shot a pilot for the upcoming TV season but I guess it wasn't picked up so he got 24 instead.

OMG WTF?! Kiefer Sutherland is 24. Nobody and I mean NOBODY can take his place. Adding this guy to the show is like adding salt or pepper to an strawberry. Man I hate this fruit cake...

I dont think he is going to fit to show but we will see. I hope he wont mess it up.

Freddie will do fine as long as they don't force him on us. He could probably take the mantle from Kiefer should it be the case.

Let's face it if Kiefer tried playing Jack Bauer when his career was tailspinning during the mid-to-late 90's, we'd be rolling out eyes at the announcement.

not this fruit case. come on. you finally made the show fresh and now you're going to add freddie. FAIL

Give him a shot, the guys behind 24 don't have the habit of getting it wrong. Plus I liked him as Donny Crane in Boston Legal so I will give him a go.

I don't know why they just don't bring back Chase from season 3 or Ricky Schroder's character--we've seen this before

  • petef20

I dunno how he'll work, all I can think of was how bad Nurse Flowers was in season 6 (can't remember his character's name, the Jack-lite dude). There again Chase worked ok in season 3 so what do I know.

I'm skeptical that he'll be able to pull it off. However, I was skeptical at fist about Ricky Schroeder, but he did alright in S6. Hmmm, actually, this character sounds an aweful lot like Ricky's character.
