24 producer/director John Cassar exiting

John Cassar

More so than most programs, Fox's 24 owes its fingerprint to its collection of incredibly talented producers, who bend and shape the show to their liking because they also happen to be huge fans of 24. So it's unfortunate news for 24 faithful that producer John Cassar is leaving the show at the end of the season.

Cassar is a major creative force on 24, not only producing almost 150 of its episodes, but also directing 50. But after Cassar and execs couldn't come to terms on a new contract, Cassar decided to leave the show, reports EW.com.

"I will not be involved with the upcoming eighth season," Cassar told EW. "Although that's sad for me to leave after six years, it's also very exciting to be back in the marketplace working with different people and facing different challenges."

Cassar has already found his next gig. Last week, he was announced as the director for the upcoming CBS drama pilot Washington Field from Criminal Minds mastermind Ed Bernero.

One of my fondest memories of going to ComicCon International over the past few years was watching the producers of 24, Cassar included, discuss the show with fans. They seemed to be having the time of their lives, and it was blatantly obvious that their chemistry was essential to the show's success. Let's hope Cassar's exit doesn't affect the show too much.

Maybe the next director will be smart enough not to have Janeane Garofalo on the show. She ruins it this year! I loved to see Jack yell at her last night! If she's on it next season, we won't be watching! And we've been watching since season 1. Get her off!

I've always been a bigger fan of Stephen Hopkins or, for that matter, Kevin Hooks. It's no great loss, especially since Cassar doesn't seem to have been forced out.

This is NOT good news. Besides Kiefer, Cassar is the anchor of the show. I hope the 8th season can hold up to what has been a very good 7th season, and that maybe Cassar can come back for the supposed film.

I can't help but worry, since I love the show and that may in part be due to his influence. So his leaving may degrade it... somehow. I've seen it happen with bands and baseball teams. But! It's also possible that new blood will mean some new ideas, which has me hopeful 24 could get better. We'll see next year I reckon.

I'm glad in a way Jon Cassar is leaving "24" after this season. To me there seemed like this sense of paranoia with Jon Cassar in regards to keeping "24" shooting in LA because it had consistent weather, compared to say shooting in Canada. The sshow suffered in my opinion in the last 2-3 seasons, partly because the look of the show was the same and was getting stale.

Well its a shame but its only a producer and director...I mean he's the one walking so he obviously wanted more money or summin so he has gone to another big show (Criminal minds) probably for better pay. 24 has like 15 producers in day 17 if you watch the credits it shouldnt affect the show much at all.

Personally I don't care about a producer/director leaving a show. I've watched every episode from the very beginning and I don't even recognize his name. As long as the quality of writing and acting stays the same, it's no big deal.

    At last !!!
Frankly, after seeing the special features on some of the "24" dvd sets I don't understand how most of the actors could stand working with such a hysterical, rude and preppy guy.
I do recognize his work as a director and "probably" he's been a reason for the success of such good show; but let me remind you that on the first season, John Cassar was only credited as a director on some of the shows as the executive producer credit went to Stephen Hopkins (a great director by the way) whose reason for leaving the show I never knew.
There's a saying which goes like: "every change is for good"... so... for those of you who SURELY may disagree with me, I can tell you this: Don't worry, there's gonna be "24" for a while... with or without a JOHN CASSAR.moreless
