90210 A-OK at CW

In the least surprising move of the upfronts, the CW has given the go-ahead to the modern-day version of the classic teen soap opera Beverly Hills, 90210, says Variety. The program, which still does not have a title, has been a hot topic at the network ever since it was announced earlier this year.

The CW is fast-tracking the series based on premise alone; over the last few weeks the cast has been put in place even though they have nothing to say--a pilot script hasn't even been completed yet. Veronica Mars creator Rob Thomas initially penned a pilot for the show, but his script is currently being rewritten by Freaks and Geeks producers Jeff Judah and Gabe Sachs, who are expected to take over showrunning duties after Thomas decided to split to work on other projects.

The most recent cast announcement for the show is also its biggest yet. Former 90210er Jennie Garth will reprise her role as Kelly Taylor in the new version. Garth's character is now a guidance counselor at her alma mater, Beverly Hills High, where much of the action will take place. Garth joins Jessica Walter (Arrested Development), Tristan Wilds (The Wire), Lori Loughlin (Full House, and Shenae Grimes (Degrassi: The Next Generation) as cast members, but Garth's role has been described as recurring.

Also picked up by the CW are newcomers Surviving the Filthy Rich (previously known as How to Teach Filthy Rich Girls) and Tyra Banks' new reality show Stylista. Like CW favorite Gossip Girl, Filthy Rich is based on a series of young adult books, this one centering on a young woman who tutors a rich family's teens. Stylista pits contestants against one another as they fight for a job at fashion magazine Elle.

Finally, bubble comedy The Game was awarded an extra season. It will enter its third season and will likely fill the void (in theory at least) vacated by the now departed Aliens in America.

Let me start off by saying, this is my favorite show. Not only that but it's also televisions favorite show. How many shows came after 90210 almost completely mimicing the characters. Point blank, if your not going to give this show some of the best writers' like those from "Veronica Mars" or "Gilmore Girls" or even "One Tree Hill" then there is no point in bringing back a Classic.

How many rich people shows do we need? I know The OC and Gossip Girl were both good, but seriously!

<b><i>i think it's a bad idea, no need for a BH spinoff. The CW's current shows are awesome. The show will be just showing spoiled rich kids and in their fancy houses, how will that help teens and people out there? it's just showing off, but w/e.
People barely remember this show from the 90's, who will know what it is now.</b></i>
