A Bones crossover you have to read to believe

Oh man, I'm trippin' balls here...
is that really Walt's mom from Lost?

Television producers will do crazy things for ratings, particularly when it's time to gear up for the end of a show's season. Characters perish, guest stars drop in, and sexual tension thickens to a soupy mess. But the hardest thing to pull off is the crossover--inviting one show into the universe of another.

Fox's Bones is going to attempt the tricky maneuver later this season, but this one is going to be on the near-impossible side of the scale. All you Bones fans have a seat, take a deep breath, and clear your head, because Bones is going to try a crossover episode with…

Family Guy. I'll just let that sink in for a while.

First reported by EW.com, the crossover seems like the result of a double-dog dare or peyote trip and no doubt has fans of Bones (and Family Guy) utterly perplexed. Here's how it's reportedly going to go down (spoilers follow--read at your own risk):

Special Agent Seeley Booth (David Boreanaz) is due to come down with a "life-threatening" illness during a May episode, which causes him to hallucinate like a regular at a Grateful Dead show. One of the side effects of the illness will actually make Booth think he's hanging out with Family Guy's Stewie--the would-be world-dominating baby of the animated Griffin clan.

"It's not just a fantasy of ours," Bones executive producer Stephen Nathan told EW.com. "There's medical research to back up what's going on with Booth. There are conditions where you can see cartoon characters."

Stewie will actually help set up what the producers really want to ultimately happen, which is have Booth and Temperance "Bones" Brennan (Emily Deschanel) do some bonin' of their own in the season finale.

Like you, I thought this may be some elaborate hoax when I first read it. But I contacted reps for both Bones and Family Guy at Fox, and they confirmed that Stewie's visit to Booth's mind is indeed being planned.

I'm speechless. Someone please say something.

I saw the episode and enjoyed it very much. Bones is an excellent series, always clever dialog & innovative & more-than-interesting plot & story line. There actually are documented cases & conditions in which patients' minds are visited by cartoon characters, so this crossover isn't nearly as strange as you might at first think it is.

um, wow? kinda weird, since the show obviously doesn't need it, but should be interesting. btw, how many more hallucinations is Booth going to have? I thought 2 would be enough...apparently no.

    Should be funny !!

The way I look at it is that the writer's are not trying to make us believe that Stewie is real. They are just having him show up in Booth's hallucination. Poor Booth. It's no wonder they're bringing Gordon Gordon back. Just Sweets alone isn't gonna be enough to fix Booth's mental problems.

My reaction can be summed up in three characters: o.O

Omg , are they really trying to ruin the show! Is it just to much to ask to let them kiss again and be a couple without crossovers. Kiss

It's not that surprising, really. Remember the Simpson's episode where X-Files' Mulder and Scully showed up to investigate the "alien" in the woods who turned out to be a throat-scraped, irradiated Mr. Burns, burning brightly after his weekly rejuvenation treatment? The only difference is the "live" characters became cartoons, whereas in the upcoming Bones episode, the cartoon character -- Stewie -- enters the "real" world, while remaining a cartoon. Oh, and in that medical condition, to which the article above alludes -- what did people in, say, the 1300's see when they had the condition? Or is this strictly a 20th/21st century psychological condition? And they say there's nothing new under the sun . . .

I think this will be great! I'm not a Family Guy fan but I'm looking forward to it. Booth is hallucinating it's not like they are working Stewie into a murder or something.

I think this is a really bad idea for a crossover. If you're going to do one why not do something cool like a House crossover. I put this stupid idea up there with whatever idiot thought making Zack work with the gormogon was a good idea.

I hate it when decent brainy forensic shows crossover with crappy over-rated cartoons!

  • XxILUVITVxX

real world and animated shows shouldn't cross at all. The show's character that is crossing over always looks funny. They ruined it.

    Mar 29, 2009
  • LutheShow

    WTF?!
If there is one rule that should stand, it should be the no cartoon-real world crossover episodes one. We have all seen crossovers before Flintstones-Jetsons, Simpsons-Critic but they have all stayed within there own respectible realms. To bring a cartoon into a real world is just asking for trouble. Anyone remember how horrible Cool World was?

  • famguyrocks

what =0 How they gonna do that without ruining bones?

  • dbrown2009

This is the stupidest thing I've ever heard. I was wondering if I made a mistake by deciding not to watch this show anymore. Now, I know I made the right call. The people running this show are idiots, and this proves it.

    Mar 28, 2009
  • boneslover4

What are the writers thinking?? What is Hart Hanson thinking? Bones has drifted so far away from when they started. Hardly any of the cases are all that complicated anymore, and figuring out 'whodunnit' is really boring. I am a true Bones fan and I find that crossing Family Guy (which is a show I like) with Bones is a huge mistake!! If they wanted to end the show they could have done it quietly and painlessly. This is just going to be plain bad and messy :(

I like both shows ... I'm looking forward to seeing exactly how this turns out.

I´ve never even watched Family Guy, but I do know who Stewie is, I don't know, is this supposed to be funny?, if they're doing this I hope at least it is.

  • Melapalousa

EPIC and RIDICULOUS FAIL. They aren't jumping the shark with this crap, they're making shark-sushi sandwiches out of him. Kiss this show's credibility goodbye.

    Mar 27, 2009
  • sapphyre_blu

Can someone say "jump the shark"...what am I saying, I'd watch it anyway!

  • jwcritter

Not a FG fan so I don't know the character, but the whole idea sounds...well, weird is the kindest word I can come up with. It's getting so you don't know if anything Booth experiences is real. Give the poor guy's psyche a break. Besides, I want him (and us fans) to know any future B&B action isn't a figment of his imagination. Our imaginations are fevered enough without dragging Booth's sick (in the literal sense)mind into it. ;-).

    Mar 26, 2009
  • malawi69

WOW!!! this idea won't live up to it's hype. NO wait, actually it will, there is no hype (or hope) at all, same goes for compatibility with Family Guy.
