Cue up the Tabernacle Choir, because Big Love—HBO's soaring and lovely and frustratingly under-appreciated domestic drama—is coming back to the airwaves on January 10th. The network has just released the above fourth season promotional poster, which seems to suggest that Bill and his three wives are in for some stormy Utah weather. Just what could the conflict be? Michael Ausiello at Entertainment Weekly offers the following hints:
When we rejoin the family, man of the house(s) Bill (Bill Paxton) will be running for state senator. But the issue won't be whether he wins but what he stands to lose along the way. "His goal, if he's elected, is to put himself and his family out there as public polygamists," says executive producer Marc V. Olsen, adding, "He can't be impeached for that. Polygamy is technically a misdemeanor in Utah, [and a misdemeanor is not] an impeachable offense." Nonetheless, the Henrickson wives' vote is split in a way that threatens to splinter the entire clan.
Juicy! Though, it's gonna take a lot of es'plainin' to get from the pseudo-closeted family of secrets we've come to know and love to a tres public political unit that a run for office clearly implies. However they do it, we're sure the journey will be satisfying, surprising, and strange. Much like the rest of the show! Alby's getting a boyfriend. Did you hear about that one? Oh, and the whole Ben/Margene tension is finally gonna get answered. Very exciting.
And that's the brilliance of this show. The writers deftly combine themes big and sweeping, like a consequence-laden political struggle, with moments that are small and interior and, oftentimes, heartbreaking—sad gay Alby, for example. Big Love has the kind of wild and almost unwieldy range that would usually topple a TV show, but in this case it's that exact loud, messy, frightening scramble that makes it so exciting. Kind of like a thunderstorm.

The most underrated show on television. I hope this season finally gets its due (and an Emmy award for them, please!)!!
I tried watching it once and it was just too creepy for me.
This is a truly amazing show, Iam glad I accidenatlly run into it during it's first season. I have been hooked ever since. I can't wait for the new season to begin.
i love this show. very diffrent view on religions families in america. and the cast does it amazinly :P
Yeah, King. I got so far as the first few episodes in the first season, and I foundthe idea of the show a lot more interesting than the show itself. No doubt it was still in the exposition phase, but I found Bill Paxton's character to be not much more than the harried juggler of all those gals, a sort of Frank Sinatra in Come Blow Your Horn without the skinny ties. Or coolness. So....clearly I should have hung on. I'll try to catch up before the premiere. Any help much appreciated.
Always wanted to watch this show.. never seem to get the chance.
