... According to a bunch of "doctors" who probably wanted to be TV stars but never made it because they're lame, watching television is killing you. According to an analysis of data from eight studies on the health effects of watching television, your chances of developing diabetes and heart disease increase greatly with every additional two hours of television you watch per day. For every additional three hours of watching TV, the chances of dying from "any cause during the respective studies jump 13 percent." Sounds to me like these researchers were just killing these participants for sport. [CNN]
... Watching TV may kill you, but recording TV is killing the planet. DVR boxes waste about $3 billion in electric bills annually, according to a report by the Natural Resources Defense Council. In related news, the National Association of DVR Lovers says the Natural Resources Defense Council eats puppies. [LA Times]
... For a long time, everyone believed that actors who were asked to announce the Emmy nominations would themselves be nominated. But that trend ended last year when Community's Joel McHale woke up really early and announced a bunch of people who weren't him. This year, Mike & Molly's Melissa McCarthy and Fringe's Joshua Jackson have been given the honor chore of announcing the nominees, meaning the practice of nominating those who announce the nominees is officially over. [Deadline Hollywood]
... Here's some good news for Glee haters: Oxygen Network's The Glee Project, a reality show on which contestants compete to be a new cast member on Fox's Glee, debuted to just under half a million viewers. That is what you call "a bomb," according to today's trades. [EW]
... Smallville star Tom Welling has stated that he'd be up for a Smallville movie, should the opportunity ever arise. I guess this isn't really hard news, but I know how you love Smallville and just thought you should know. [On The Red Carpet]
... Cartoon Network's Ben 10 is being made into a movie! [MTV]
... Wonderfalls and Tim's Dream World star Caroline Dhavernas, recently seen in ABC's Off the Map, will play the female lead in USA's Over/Under. The drama follows a day trader (Steven Pasquale) who loses his job and starts a business as a high-end bookie. Dhavernas will play the guy's wife. If watching this show because I'm stalking Dhavernas and have a crippling gambling addiction is wrong, I don't want to be right. [Deadline Hollywood]
... Lost star Matthew Fox will star in the film adaptation of Max Brooks' novel World War Z. The book is written as an oral history that details a global zombie apocalypse 10 years after the fact, and it's quite good. I should know, I read the Cliff's Notes. No word on who Fox will play, but he'll join a cast that includes Brad Pitt, Ed Harris, and The Killing's Mireille Enos. [Deadline Hollywood]
... The satire kings at The Onion already have shows on Comedy Central (SportsDome) and IFC (Onion News Network), but that's not good enough for them. The Onion has signed a first-look deal with CBS, meaning it will develop series ideas for the network and its online properties. Which means that within a year, it will be them writing these News Briefs and not me. [Deadline Hollywood]

No one saw the Glee Project. Shocker. Maybe they shouldn't change the cast! >:(
That looks like it might be a lot of fun dude.www.web-privacy.no.tc
There's already 2 Ben 10 movies out there. And who cares if there will be a Smallville movie?! Haven't they tortured us long enough with the show?!

I would love for there to be a Smaillville movie. Even if it was made for TV or straight to DVD it would be fantastic.
World War Z sounds interesting
whoever made the survey should probably go kill himself.
If that amount of TV would kill you, I sholud've kicked the bucket long ago... But hey, I survived Y2K, Bird Flu, Swine flu and all that other bull. I'll survive television as well...
Looks like I need to read World War Z.
I can't remember the last time I actually cared about any TV news story featured on these news briefs... probably when Fringe/SPN was renewed.
@mermayd Tim is always snarky, that's why we love him!
Wow, this is a pretty snarky article. Did someone apply to work for the Daily Mail and get rejected?
If that study was true, i'd have some disease of be dead already. I'm far from a Glee hater, but The Glee Project is absolute garbage and had no reason to ever be greenlit. i liked Caroline Dhavernas and even Off The Map (why did the sex addicts of Private Practice get renewed and not Off The Map?) but this new show sounds meh.. i might check it out depending on the rest of the cast though. Ben 10 has already been a live action tv movie, wonder if they'll use the same cast for a feature film or just overlook it entirely lol and i'd watch a Smallville movie, honeslty i think they left it too open ended, but the movie would only work if everybody from the show was on itmoreless
Finally, we get to see Matthew Fox in something again. Brilliant actor.
As longs as Tom is in it, I would totally watch a Smallville movie!
correlation does not equal causation, this fact is just stupid.
Looking forward to the movie though, Jack and Brad Pitt fighting zombies, cool!! A Ben-10 Hollywood movie--Swell: the special effects and budget should do the franchise justice. Hell: the script may be written by the same person who wrote, 'Percy Jackson and the $13.50 You Paid for the Price of This Movie Ticket Thief'... see what I did there... words are fun...
I guess watching a lot of TV increases your chances of getting diabetes and developing a heart disease... if you're sutffing your face with cheetos and candy while doing it!!! That's called reading the variables wrong, you medical researchers!!
On the 'World War Z' website, there's a risk calculator, which is basically a questionnaire that assesses your chance of survival- had you survived the initial zombie apocalypse. I just calculated my chances and they were 37%. Yikes!
I love anything Onion!
TV can kill you... if the TV falls either in the tub or on your head. @Writerpatrick- You're right. There have been two live-action Ben 10 movies, so far. The third movie will be coming to the big screen (according to Wikipedia). It should be fun.
I guess the study is not about watching TV but about sitting and doing nothing, which - no matter if it's on a train, on an airplane or in front of your TV - increases your risk of a heart attack (due to the increase of factor VIII if I remember correctly). Anyway, I love watching TV :D
One can't say watching TV causes medical problems. It could be that those with such problems are more likely to watch TV. It's a classic example of bad science. Those who watch TV are more likely to be sedentary and it's the lower physical activity that leads to the problems. Playing video games or working in an office are just as likely to cause problems. But what are you going to do if you're laid up? And I believe there has already been a live-action Ben 10 movie.
I guess I'm going to die for watching so much tv. Huh.
