ABC Cancels Charlie's Angels

Good news! Minka Kelly is available to work again! ABC has canceled its Charlie's Angels remake after just four episodes. Normally I would say that ABC put the show out of its misery, but in this case, it's more accurate to say ABC put us out of our misery, because that show was horrible. But if you're broken up about the news, don't worry too much: According to the network, all the episodes that've been produced so far will air. Whether or not that will be at 8pm on Thursdays is another story.

Last night's episode actually saw a ratings increase, suckering a 1.3 rating in the adult demo, but it wasn't enough to save the series. After debuting with a 2.1 rating, the show steadily declined and bottomed out at a 1.2. Things clearly weren't going to get much better, so ABC pulled the trigger.

Charlie's Angels had a shot at doing something decent, but instead showrunners Miles Millar and Alfred Gough decided to avoid campiness and go in a slightly more serious direction. A remake of a campy show that takes itself too seriously? Bad decision. In the end, more effort went into wardrobe than dialogue.

My own horn is begging to be tooted, so I'll quickly oblige by saying I totally called this yesterday! As far as the TV.com Dead Pool goes, Charlie's Angels is worth 9 points (13 - 4 = 9).

What ever happened to the good shows that made you think filled with mystery and intrigue? Charlies Angels was a nice relief to the stupid reality shows and was cancelled after 4 episodes ridiculous. If the 18 to 49 demographic ABC is looking for is to lazy to live reality and become couch potatoes to watch what they should be doing they aren't going to live long.

Minka Kelly was the only good feature of this show. The other two "angels" were both extremely annoying and unappealing, and "Bosley" was so NOT Bosley. Even the background music was distracting and at times just flat-out inappropriate, although the show itself was bad enough that even more fitting music would not have helped much. Better casting, and as Mr. Surette points out, not trying to make it too serious (they were "trying too hard", but trying to do what?) would have given this show a much better chance.

It's not over until things are settled with all the shows. Grimm and Once Upon A Time have yet to premiere and could boost some ahead of the current leader.

Hmmm... Sitcoms/Comdies are most definitely, winning this Fall Season Schedule. Wow! I am totally laughing so hard right now with laughter. And also on the another hand, i cannot believe my own eyes at all. OMG! The Fall Season Schedule wasn't this fast at cancellaion last year. God damn! They've develop some crappy storylines for Dramas this time around for sure. Winners: Two and a Half Men, 2 Broke Girls, Up All Night, New Girl, Whitney and Last Man Standing. And Losers Playboy Club, Charlie's Angels, Free Agents, How to Be a Gentleman.

By far, one of the worst shows with the worst acting ever. THIS IS A TOP 4 CHANNEL. What the heck!! Meanwhile excellent shows are being passed up and put on cable. Won't say its excellent, but Rizzoli and Isles. a Solid and good Cop woman show, with KNOWN actors. What is Minka's claim to fame? Dated Jeter..... Comon ABC, you found Castle, find another good one.

Like I have been saying for the longest time, Al Gough, and Miles Miller are totally untalented HACKS who dont deserve thier rate of pay! Now that they are not working on Smallville anymore the world finally saw what I've been seeing FOR THE LONGEST TIME, that they are f.o.s. and need to leave T.V. ALONE! pLus they would of just killed off the black angel by the third season if the show lasted that long, w/ the other two angels saying will still visit her grave from time to time, but never do. THX ABC this bit of news just made me smile : )

So not even 1/2 surprised. Pilot was just plain boring. I tried to watch it twice and got distracted by the local newspaper both times...Shame though cause Rachael Taylor and Minka Kelly are better than this poor production.

About time, that thing was awful, and the actresses in it need some acting class, even Minka Kelly which was great in Fright Night Lights, was awful in it.

It is amazing that no one seems to be able to make a contemporary version of this franchise. After one mediocre and one bad movie, this new series lacked every ability to be entertaining. I'm sad to see another batch of Angels go.

It looks like my Dead Pool score will be 28. But Charlie's Angels was obviously destined for early cancellation.

Based upon other shows that have been cancelled, there's probably only three episodes left. That should fill the spot until the Holidays arrive. Whether they decide to move the show would depend upon what else they have to fill the spot with.

Since ABC decided to wait for the fourth episode to cancel Charlie's Angels it's likely that we could hear of Pan AM's cancellation early this week.

I have thought Pan Am has done a wonderful job keeping me interested and not just spending 40 mins on the Plane. I think Pan Am has a chance to stay alive but I wouldn't bet my life on it lol. It's good but you never know with these shows that are in the middle of the pack ratings wise. So good luck Pan Am, you've earned a place on my WDTV Live Hub!

I am a huge fan of the original series (hence my avatar), but I'm not sad to see this go. I tuned out halfway through the pilot episode and never looked back. Not only was this show trying to take itself too seriously, there was nothing ground-breaking about it in the way the original series was, and there was no dynamite chemistry between these angels. R.I.P. Angels.

I don't understand why networks pick up horrible shows like this. As soon as people hear about it, everyone knows it's going to cancelled quickly. Yet the network doesn't realize this? It's just so obvious to me every single year what shows are going to get cancelled or just have low ratings. I guess Annie I. should have stuck with General Hospital (god how I hated her and her bad acting).

Looks like ABC tried taking a page out of the CBS playbook here. CBS sucessfully re-made Hawaii-50 and made it a hit again and some genius at ABC thought: "we can do that with this show". This show was an all around bad idea from the word go. Wonder what 70's classic wil lbe the next show one of the major networks (ABC,CBS,NBC/ Didn't list Fox as it wasn't around in the 70's) will try and update weather sucessful or not as all 3 networks have lot's of classics show they can try and update for the current time.

Have all the good idea's for shows been taken or used up already? Maybe some stand-up comic will try and bring his/her comedy to the small screen (like that's never happened yet or before).

There is no imagination left in hollywood anymore. What little there had been was killed when most networks realized how cheap "reality" shows were to produce in comparison to hour-long dramas

They should really ask the audience before going ahead

How can you mess up a slam dunk like Charlie's Angels. And why does Hollywood keep doing remakes. There are a stack of writers in Hollywood - can't any of them come up with anything good?

You're right, mermayd, the fact that this show managed to mess up what could have been a slam dunk attests to just how bad this reincarnation was...

It's not just the writers. The directors, the producers, the cast, director of photography, etc. They probably thought that they just can put 3 pretty girls together and it would work because it did the first time (slam-dunk). We're 35 years later!!! Look at "Hawaii Five-0": It's the same premise but they have adapted (upgraded) the characters. Look how much stronger the cast is, the directing, the scene-shots. If you get good writing on top of that...

Yet, they could have used new names instead of the old for a current generation carrying on the efforts of the Five-O unit. Absolutely no point in having a new actors playing McGarret or Wo Fat. Why couldn't they have created new names, personalities, and catch-phrases like "Book 'em Danno!" I kept thinking of Jack Lord when watching this and couldn't get past that, so I stopped.

Not surprised! Trying to bring back that series never worked, neither in movies nor this. Maybe some day they'll learn and let it be.

The show was about three hot girl-heros when the lead characters on TV were mostly men. Today, we have plenty of hot leading woman-heros characters which reduce pretty much the impact of such a series.

They would have had more chances with a remake of "Hart to Hart" with Mark Valley and a good leading actress. That actor is wasted on "Harry's Law".

There never was such an era. Plenty of shows in say the '70s got cancelled after a few episodes. An example would be something like Gemini Man from 1976, which was cancelled after 5 episodes aired. The remaining 6 episodes filmed didn't air in the US, although they did air in the UK.

I have to disagree with most of you!! Charlie's Angels was not that bad actually is was quite good, ABC made a mistake personally I think all the networks pull the trigger to fast on cancellations, bottom line its the exec's having to high of an expectation and when its not meant bring out the ax !! so far I have heard so so things about Ringer, Secret Circle, Hart of Dixie and guess what they got pick up and they are on the CW I happen to watch the CW but they are forth behind the Alpha, Eye, and Peacock !! it kinda makes me wonder how Grey;s and Private Practice are doing since they followed C.A, Maybe a cable network will pick up Charlie's Angels

Well, I agree with you, but the ratings drop in Charlie's Angels was pretty severe, so I guess this show would still be at the bottom. I never gave it a chance and I didn't like it, but there are plenty of shows that have deserved a little more leeway (Take for instance Firefly. You don't have to like it, but they did everything they could to shoot it down by airing out of order etc. Or trying to kill Buffy by shoving it around the schedule and putting it on the worst nights possible, but they luckily already had enough of a fanbase to follow them through these changes).

This was the right choice. The show gave a whole new meaning to the word horrible. I cannot believe that the producers and creators of the show watched it and deemed it good enough for TV. In the current TV climate with many great shows, how can anyone put this kind of crap on TV? I'm optimistic that a remake like this can work. I mean, why not? But then you have to update it and find some new angles to it. And get some proper actors and writers. Geez, the writing was bad. It had so many clichs, embarrassing scenes and holes in it that many times I felt bad for the actors in the scenes. You could see on their faces that they were thinking "I cannot believe I'm saying these lines". They looked like they themselves wanted the show to end. Cancelling this show was a great public service for everyone: those involved in making the show and us watching TV.

It's actually quite the opposite, the networks are getting more and more patient because tv ratings overall are constantly declining (thanks to the internet and the like). If this show had been on air only a few years ago it would have been canceled right after the premier at a heartbeat with the ratings it's been getting.

Prime Suspect on NBC is next. It tied with that needlessly stupid 18-49 demographic, but had 1.46 million fewer viewers overall.
