Good news! Minka Kelly is available to work again! ABC has canceled its Charlie's Angels remake after just four episodes. Normally I would say that ABC put the show out of its misery, but in this case, it's more accurate to say ABC put us out of our misery, because that show was horrible. But if you're broken up about the news, don't worry too much: According to the network, all the episodes that've been produced so far will air. Whether or not that will be at 8pm on Thursdays is another story.
Last night's episode actually saw a ratings increase, suckering a 1.3 rating in the adult demo, but it wasn't enough to save the series. After debuting with a 2.1 rating, the show steadily declined and bottomed out at a 1.2. Things clearly weren't going to get much better, so ABC pulled the trigger.
Charlie's Angels had a shot at doing something decent, but instead showrunners Miles Millar and Alfred Gough decided to avoid campiness and go in a slightly more serious direction. A remake of a campy show that takes itself too seriously? Bad decision. In the end, more effort went into wardrobe than dialogue.
