ABC Cancels Pan Am, The River, and Missing

The dude represents ABC.

The flight crashed, the Amazon dried up, and that backpacking kid might never be found by his mom. ABC has canceled a trio of dramas to end its busy day, saying goodbye to Pan Am, The River, and Missing.

We can't say that any of these cancellations come as a surprises. Pan Am was one of the season's period pieces inspired by the Mad Men craze. It didn't do that well, but it didn't do that bad, either. ABC opted not to order the back nine episodes after the show's initial 13 aired, but held off on officially canceling the show. Fans stayed positive, but it was a longshot to come back.

As for The River, well, I think we can safely say that a found-footage horror television series just doesn't work. I'll miss monkeys wearing random doll faces in the jungle, though.

Network executives, let Missing be a lesson to you. America is not really interested in 40-year-old female action heroes who spend all their time running after planes and falling to their knees to cry. But don't miss the thrilling conclusion when the series finale airs next Thursday on ABC!

The River was something different, a new type of show, and I loved it. It was depressing that no one picked it up because it could have gone really far. Big whoop, not a lot of people watched it, hell, not a lot of people watched Castle during it's first season either! You must give a show at least two seasons, or else don't make it in the first place. I'm so sick of these stupid singing shows and cop shows, just shut the hell up and bring us a new type of show(Like THE RIVER) you easily entertained twats. -.-

I loved the river, it was a really enjoyable show. Was it a great show no but it was enjoyable and had good solid acting in it, including Detective Lance from Arrow. Too bad I really wanted to know if they would get out at the end. And how certain relationships would pan out. Still it was good while it lasted.

I hated "The River" right away because it OVERUSED the shakey, hand held, doc camera work. I mean constantly. It was giving me a headache and became annoying real quick.

I was surprised it wasn't cancelled sooner.

Can't believe The River is cancelled! And Missing! Can the viewing public no longer focus on good quality tv? Too much reality TV has destroyed brain cells! All good programming is cancelled. Cable TV is the place to get quality TV and a good chance the show won't be cancelled before its time! grrrrr

That sucks about The River. That show was awesome!

That's the thing about these so called networks. They always make false promises. They'll use anything to full us consumers in to thinking that there will be another season. I think they have a lot to answer for when cancelling these shows at the last minute.

I liked the River and could have continued. Yet another unique show cancelled in favor of the same old garbage I'm sick of watching. Sure there could be improvements but why is it nearly impossible for shows to reach a second season or third in this day and age? That is when show really takes off in my opinion, especially in this genre.

The River started out fairly good then fell in the toilet like Lost did after a few episodes. Missing was kinda okay but Ashley Judd kicking all that booty didn't seem genuine, but I watched it anyway. Awake was convoluted but I still found it interesting after the colored bracelets helped me keep my sanity. As for Pan Am, I'm sorry to see that go because of the hot babes and a decent enough story, kinda like Playboy Club, not enough time to get legs and develop.

I thought Ashley over-acted a bit! But the concept was good and I did enoy it!

So upset that Missing is cancelled! It's been absolutely AMAZING! I think it hasn't even had one boring second and the storyline is breathtaking! Very, very upset by that! :(

I couldn't help but laugh at:

"Network executives, let Missing be a lesson to you. America is not really interested in 40-year-old female action heroes who spend all their time running after planes and falling to their knees to cry. But don't miss the thrilling conclusion when the series finale airs next Thursday on ABC!"

Missing is an exciting drama/action series that shows that women can and will kick anyone' behind to protect her child. What's wrong, male egos having trouble watching a woman drop strong, dangerous men? Remember the Australian grandmother who took down the two "men" who raped her granddaughter? The world raved! Was it only the female population voicing their approval? We need more strong, mature women on TV! They can be very physical, too and I don't mean that they have to be rolling in the hay to be female!

Yes, obviously saw The River and Missing getting canceled. Two shows that I felt were like a chore to watch. Watchable shows but could live without needing to see them more unlike "A" class shows, these were "B" class shows. At least The River had something of a proper season finale ending that could also be viable if the series ended. We'll have to see how Missing ends its season.

The River was bad, but I expected that. With the bar set that low, I pretty much enjoyed it. I'm not surprised it was cancelled, but I would've kept going if it hadn't been..

Pan Am lost me somewhere at the 15th cutscene. I could barely tolerate that with Lost, but Lost had the sense to stick with one person per episode. Pan Am had too much "who gives a sh*t" too soon.

Not surprised at all that ABC decided not to renew "Pan Am". It was a good (not great) show that never got the ratings it needed.

Last man, bitch! are u kidding me??? trash!!!

at least they were cool and original!

"ABC pulls the plug on 3 shows everybody already thought were canceled months ago." Bold move!

Pan AM was practically cancelled already so it's not surprise that they made it official. And if it hadn't been cancelled I likely would have dropped it. I've still to watch the last three episodes which I probably will over the summer when there's not much else to watch.

Haha, somehow I saw this coming... What was Pan Am? A spy drama or Romcom with wings? Well, it was boring. Missing was/is boring as well...not so much Bourne Identity it wished it would be... and The River scared me like twice. The puppet episode was scary... The horror section is just so oversaturated, they would have needed a better idea than this found footage mess... Good bye you three!

Which is a waste due to great actors.

I'm gonna miss Pan Am. Missing is one of the saddest and most stupid shows in a long time. I don't know what you americans really know about Europe, but we do not allow CIA agents run around with guns. They arent even allowed to operate without permission. We had an incident after 9/11 where CIA took an Egyptian man with a swedish citizenship out of Sweden. That incident caused an enormous amount of tension on government level. In Missing they run around shooting people, firing off bullets inside historical places etc etc...and it cannot be done.

The show is stupid and embarrassing to the point of me turning it off half way through. AWAKE AWAKE AWAKE, I'll miss you, you intelligently written show.

All scripted TV shows are unrealistic. At least the ones that get renewed, anyway. The point of a lot of action movies or TV series is to come up with a roller coaster effect that pulls the audience along. This is why the average cop series has its protagonists see more action and solve more crimes in a single season as the average cop does in several lifetimes. Nobody wants to watch cops sitting in donut shops munching on crullers - while realistic, it's boring and we get to see it on a routine basis while running our daily errands.

honestly i have no idea what you know about good shows!! nobody said anyone believed that this was true of course CIA and any sort of operative needs permission missing was a good show with a very good plot and if you couldn't keep up with understanding it then i very much pity you!

There were no vivid sex scenes. That's what others expect and is missing from "Missing." Sad, very sad.

Yes, because all those TV shows where CIA Agents/Spec Ops/Rogue Cops run around American cities shooting up our historic sites and randomly executing and/or kidnapping people are completely realistic. It's not ignorance - it's complete indifference to the confines of reality for the pursuit of entertainment. Thank goodness - I'm just looking for a good concept that's written and cast well (and hopefully pays attention to it's own continuity). It's more entertaining that way. Alas for poor Missing - it did not entertain. Probably would have been better as a movie of the week over on Lifetime =P

Awake was original and well done for a first season - it probably belonged on cable =[

I never even considered Pan Am (although I might have if they'd played up the cold war spy aspect and advertised that!).

(And honestly ... the incident w/ the CIA operating in Europe caused tension because they got outed to the civilian masses - not because it happened).

I tried to like The River, I really did. But it was just too stupid, in my opinion. I saw the entire season, but I just finished watching it online this week. The show was too dumb. As for Pan Am and Missing, you could tell those shows didn't have a future. There were several shows that seemed ridiculous right from the beginning, just from watching their promos. Sometimes shows looks so idiotic that I wonder how they even got made in the first place, let alone aired on television.

I saw the first 5 episodes or so of Missing. Got really tired of it pretty fast.

I actually liked The River. That's not to say I thought it was good, necessarily, but it was absurd enough to be enjoyable. I didn't expect to see it back though.

I didn't watch Pan Am but I assumed it sucked.

I love Missing, but I just don't see it as a multi-season series. If ABC had been realistic, it would have been billed as a longer mini-series. I just hope the season/series finale isn't a cliff-hanger. I hate that! In the alternative, I hope they filmed two endings--one cliff-hanger and one wrap-up.

I was not surprised of the direction "the river" was headed. BUT "missing"? Come On, you gotta be kidding! Missing is such a compelling show! We want more of it not cancel it.

I watch Missing. At first, because I love the action/adventure/spy genre. But now, it's just to make fun of how much more insanely ridiculous things get every week. The lesson for network execs is, if you're going to drop boatloads of money on a couple of stars and shooting locations abroad, make sure you have the budget for good writers, directors and the rest of the cast, as well. Otherwise, you end up with a polished turd.

I like Missing. It's TV, who cares if it's believeable or not. Since when is vampires believeable? At the same time, how long could it last? She would eventually find her son. I had hope though that something could come of it. She could've teamed up with her son and looked for other missing children.

I thought Pan Am was pretty good so I'm sad about that. I never gave The River a chance because I knew it'd never last.

I barely gave Missing a chance and I thought it was ok even though it was Taken: Lifetime Edition but I don't care either way really if it was cancelled or renewed, actually I'm kind of glad it got cancelled, it had no business being a series, miniseries or TV movie, sure, but not a series where it'd never have a definite end which is what that kind of story needs.

I lost interest in MISSING when I saw that apartment the kid went missing from How could a poor college kid afford a space like that? It was an insult to the viewer's intelligence!
