ABC crashing cars for sport, too

Television is often a sad tale of "Monkey see, monkey do" (with apologies to real monkeys everywhere). This time around, the primates over at ABC decided to mimic CBS' chimps by revealing a project with the producers of Hell's Kitchen that would pit contestants strapped into cars against an obstacle course, says The Hollywood Reporter.

The pending project, called Crash Course, sounds--on paper-- like a clone of CBS' recently announced Thunder Road. Both reality shows involve drivers navigating a specially designed obstacle course, with an emphasis on wrecking the vehicles.

However, the ABC version will take the funny route, with Orlando Jones and Dan Cortese on board to host. In fact, Crash Course sounds exactly like its other obstacle course show Wipeout with the addition of cars.

Crash Course will also feature couples instead of lone contestants, and ABC believes this will make the show.

"We do things with cars that you would never imagine," executive producer Arthur Smith told The Hollywood Reporter. "Yet our show is about the people, not the cars, and nothing brings out the worst in people than putting somebody in a passenger seat."

At last, an executive producer that totally admits his goal is to bring out the worst in people. There's a special place in Hell for you, buddy.

Sounds awful. Why can't they make some decent shows?

Not much different than what can be found on the Speed Network, except for focusing on the couples with more depth. Maybe they need to add deadly bees to ratchet up the value.
