ABC Delays Marvel's Agent Carter

Friends, family, the three members of the Chad Michael Murray fan club who are reading this: I have some bad news. ABC is delaying the Season 2 premiere of Marvel's Agent Carter. Now before you start bombarding the official ABC Twitter account with all the weapons emojis and before you can fire off a strongly worded e-mail about how the network is "seriously, like, trying to ruin your life," you should know that there is actually a legitimate reason for the delay: the State of the Union Address is scheduled for January 12.

Agent Carter was originally scheduled to kick things off with a two-hour premiere on Tuesday, January 5, but the network is opting to delay the show by two weeks so it can air the entire season uninterrupted (because of course ABC wasn't going to air a new episode opposite the president, only FX does that). Instead, Peggy will return for more butt-kicking action, this time in Los Angeles, on Tuesday, January 19 at 9pm. Please plan your weekly CMM discussions around the new date.

Is that going to happen in 2017 as well because that means Obama will be giving 9, the most since FDR.

Let's just hope there won't be any major breaking news stories (national or local) on Tuesdays. I had to rewatch one ep of S.H.I.E.L.D. on Hulu after the original broadcast was interrupted not once, but twice, after a NYC policeman was shot.

Well, this will delay my Tuesday night at nine issue that I still haven't even wrapped my mind around yet.

Politicians always have to mess up prime time. Why don't they schedule these things for 7pm-8pm? There's usually nothing much on at that time.

But that would conflict with Jeopardy! I think they have the same audience . . . .

I'm always up for a laugh!
But in memory of the people who die daily in the world because of that, I'd never kid about terrorism, that's just out of respect.

That is fair, but in fairness, the show is about a terrorist organization (hydra) so maybe it was a reference to that?

oh well... two weeks isn't that bad.... worst is not having PoI even in the mid-season calendar (CBS!!) or for Outlander fans having to wait for nearly a year to get the new season (though that may help forgetting the horrid end of season 1)
At any rate Peggy for President and I may join Chad's fan club too so there's four of us now...

so, push a show back I would be watching for a political thing I definitely won't be watching? I'll just watch a movie or HGTV or something that night then since all the networks with actual shows will have that one.

Does this also mean delaying Agents of SHIELD by two weeks (3/8 to 3/22) in 2016?

forgoing the action of a great tv show for the promises of a politician who is further hampered by a hostile senate and congress combined with a populous with one of the lowest voter turnouts in the western world....USA you are an interesting beast ;)

So why can't we push the State of the Union back a few weeks instead? Agent Carter's gonna have plot twists. Ain't nothing going to happen during the speech except for betting on when Ruth Bader Ginsberg will fall asleep.

Having the episodes show every week w/o interruption is an acceptable reason to change the premiere date. It's not like they are pushing it back by 2 months. Two weeks is reasonable.

Why not a week?

because the State of the Union is on jan 12. If they started on Jan 5 as originally sched, the series would have a 1 week interruption; because new episodes on the main networks, CBS, NBC, ABC, don't tend to broadcast new programming when that address is being broadcast.

Good manners being practiced all around.

It's nice to see a network acknowledge the fact that breaking up the run of a show can have an adverse impact on its flow. I really don't mind waiting an extra two weeks for season 2. Now if a few more execs would get that memo....

OK...Show of Hands. How many people would watch the State of Union address if something else interesting was on?

I think there is some unwritten agreement to not air current shows so as to not upstage this event.

Abc is a broadcast network. The us government allows them to use the frequencies with some concessions. One of which is the, airing of news.

i wouldn't be surprised if stuff like the state of the Union and all of that were also included

cable channels are not held to that standard.
