ABC isn't outlining its fall schedule until tomorrow, but it looks like one show can already be crossed off the list. ABC has decided not to renew the half-hour comedy Samantha Who?, reports Variety.
Most thought the show was going to return, but Samantha Who? is looking like a casualty of the sputtering economy. The network reportedly asked for ways to trim the show's budget by as much as half-a-million dollars per episode (one option involved turning it into a multi-camera comedy rather than a single-camera), but concessions could not be made.
Samantha Who? also became expendable with ABC's huge crop of new pickups--10 in total.
The show started off with great numbers in its debut season, but lost a lot of steam in its second season, despite receiving multiple award nominations for its lead, Christina Applegate.

I'm extremely disappointed by this news! I loved Samantha Who. It was one of the freshest, smartest and funniest sitcoms on TV. I'm with you, Oh_Liver, I think ABC should have let Scrubs end and picked up Samantha Who instead. Def not a smart move on ABC's part and the reason it "lost steam" in the second season is because ABC kept switching the show's airtime and also pulling from the air for months at a time. As consolation, I'm sure According to Jim will be here till doomsday. (That was intended as sarcasm, in case anyone missed it.)
Time for real world reality to "trickle up" to all the players from entertainment and sports industries whose wasteful budgets and exorbitant salaries were an effect of excessive and over $$$ dollar $$$ valued advertising schemes. The viewers and fans may in the long run enjoy using the products they purchase much more when the cost is less. Wow- they may even purchase more "advertised goods and services" if THE PRICE IS RIGHT!

That’s a massive shame, this show was very funny. Applegate is gem and deserves a longer lasting show. I want her on my screen permanently.
Samantha Who? was fun and entertaining although it fell flat on certain aspects, like her sometimes-romance with the guy from 7th Heaven and What About Brian? (his name escapes me).
How about dropping scrubs to maintain it's perfect ending and picking up samantha who??
i hope the unaired 7 episodes will be included to the dvd.

Samantha Who? was a good show for the 1st season. A few too many shows on the air kind of killed this one & nothing really made this one shine. Christina Applegate is a prize -- but maybe on a show with a slightly better premise.
I stopped watching after the 1st season.
and i add this show to my other favorite abc comedies that didnt make it past a few seasons like 8 simple rules, Hope & Faith.
Why the hell would they do something like that?? I loved "Samantha Who?"
