Castle's stock just went up!
ABC doesn't announce its fall schedule until May 19, but feel free to update your fall-season pickup chart to include Modern Family. The network has ordered 13 episodes of the half-hour comedy, making it the first for ABC's 2009-2010 schedule.
Modern Family got the nod after some impressive screenings of the pilot, says Variety. The show follows the lives of three very different takes on the American family; a traditional nuclear family of five, a gay couple, and an interracial couple. Ed O'Neill, of Married With Children fame, stars.
In other ABC news, Surviving Suburbia has been yanked from ABC's schedule until the summer. The move comes despite Suburbia's impressive debut numbers, but many think that's due in large part to the lingering Dancing With the Stars crowd that served as its lead-in.
So now you're asking, "How does this affect the awesome Nathan Fillion?" Well, Fillion's Castle will now move up a slot on Monday nights, and it doesn't take much to see that it is now on ABC's good side and has a much better shot at renewal. Television fact #3,427--more Nathan Fillion on television means better television. We're happy.

I thought Suburbia was getting good ratings, even if it is cause of DWS how can they cancel it, How do they know another show will get as good ratings, this could be why it lags behind CBS and Fox, really liked the Unusuals, Cupid, and as much as everyone bashes according to Jim, it is good for a laugh, I would gladly take it back, I think it is better than better off ted.

Castle is one of the best new shows in ages. The writing is sharp and clever, and the characters are interesting and multi-dimensional. The chemistry really works, especially the relationship between Castle and his wonderfully non-obnoxious teenage daughter. Nathan Fillion is long overdue for a successful, long-running series, and Castle should be it! Keeping my fingers crossed for renewal.

I'm not shocked that Suburbia got the boot. It was not a strong show. What a shocker for ABC, where the line up is mediocre, at best. DH, B&S, Lost, Dancing are the strongest shows. Notice that none are sitcoms, per se? ABC needs a new direction and stratagy, if they plan to get back on top. Shows like Pushing Daisies and Cupid belong on Lifetime, not ABC. Other shows like Ugly Betty are ok, but draw a certain crowd (as in 10% of the population, if you know what i mean (snap) gurrllzzz. Narrowcasting does not work either. If that were the case, QAF Queer as Folk) would have been on a net, not Showtime, even in reruns, overnight.Too Bad that ABC is not honing their schedule. Their loss.
Hope they keep Castle.

I love Castle! It's a fun, funny, fast paced show and Nathan is utterly brilliant in it. So far the news is looking good, but I'll keep my fingers crossed until its renewal is locked in.
Castle is a little on the shallow side when it comes to the various plots, but I just can't get enough of Fillion. The show just seems so fast-paced and crisp. Now I'll have to watch it off my DVR tonight before I get to bed. So much for a little extra sleep.
Good for Castle! I know it's looking pretty good for renewal .. but I never count my renewal chickens before they're hatched, so I'm still praying/hoping for it. Have been enjoying it (and esp Nathan Fillion) so much!!

great, i actually like the writing on the show. someone please advice Mr.Fillion to temper the overacting, he did it on his past shows and that will wreck this show with time too .

Moving up a slot puts it at the same time as Heroes now, doesn't it? If Heroes is even worth watching anymore that will have to be a hulu visit for me....oh yeah and, Castle is good, Chuck is better!

Castle is light, entertaining and a refreshing alternative to the darkerprocedural shows out there like Criminal Minds, for example. There is that element of Moonlighting in the central relationship which makes it really enjoyable and an ideal programme for Nathan Fillion. You can't help but like the Fillion, whether as Mal Reynolds, Richard Castle or Captain Hammer! Stana Katic is an excellent co-star and they work off each other really well. This is a keeper and ABC should push it as hard as they can.
That makes me happy about CAstle being on the good side of ABC!
