Just when everyone thought the fall season's schedule was set in stone, ABC goes ahead and decides to add more shows to its slate. The network yesterday announced that it was making five series pickups for this fall, likely midseason entries, including the "latest" from Veronica Mars creator Rob Thomas.
We say "latest" because Thomas' new ABC show is actually a second go-round for Cupid, the romantic dramedy that Thomas ran for one season on the alphabet's 1998 fall season. The redux will follow the same premise: One dude thinks he's Cupid sent to Earth to help couples fall in loooooove. Third Watch's Bobby Cannavale and Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip's Sarah Paulson star.
Nathan Fillion (Firefly, Dr. Horrible's Sing-along Blog) has a new regular gig that doesn't involve Joss Whedon as the star of Castle, a "comedic crime procedural." Fillion plays Nick Castle, a horror novelist who works with the NYPD after a copycat killer lifts murders from Castle's books. Castle also stars Stana Katic (Quantum of Solace) and Molly Quinn (Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story).
As if one funny New York cop show isn't enough, The Unusuals is described by ABC as "a unique comedic procedural set in a New York police precinct"--clearly different from Castle's "comedic crime procedural." Amber Tamblyn (Joan of Arcadia) stars as Casey Schraeger, a detective who gets transferred to the Homicide division, where apparently everyone is a little bit of a prankster. The Unusuals also stars Harold Perrineau (Lost) and Jeremy Renner (28 Weeks Later).
Better Off Ted features Desperate Housewives' Jay Harrington as the titular Ted, a research-and-development director at a high-tech company responsible for making unusual advancements and products. The "satirical office comedy" also stars Andrea Anders (Joey, The Class) and Portia de Rossi (Arrested Development).
Finally, the atrociously named Single With Parents stars Alyssa Milano as Lou, a single woman who has parents...ta-da! Mom and Dad are divorced and rely on Lou a little too much, forcing Lou to decide that it's time to cut them off and live her own life. Annie Potts (Ghostbusters) and Beau Bridges (My Name is Earl) also star.
ABC has yet to announce when the five shows will air, but they're likely to fit somewhere in midseason.
Two procedural New York cop comedies? The titles Single With Parents and Better Off Ted? Nathan Fillion back on television? Let's hear your thoughts!

I don't think any of these sound half as good as Eli Stone, which ABC has dropped to make room for these new shows. None of them appeal to me, and I caution anyone who wants to watch them, because ABC will not give them much of a chance to succeed.Did ABC ever think about maybe putting Eli Stone in an earlier time slot? I think that would help the show immensely.
Not really enough info for a really good decision. But Better off Ted and Single With Parents sound like they have potential.
single with parents sounds good.
Nathan Fillion rock, but he is a little bit of a showkiller. Don't get too attached, people.
ari gold!
Yay I love Nathan Fillion! I will check out castle
single with parents sound funny
Alyssa is a great actrees i hope that all to be good for her :):)
I didn't see the original Cupid but with Bobby Cannavale starring in the new Cupid I'll be tuning in for sure! I can't wait for that to premiere.
Nathan Fillion (Firefly, Dr. Horrible's Sing-along Blog) has a new regular gig that doesn't involve Joss Whedon
Yay! Nathan Fillion in another TV role.Aww! Joss Whedon isn't involved.
The Cupid reboot can't possibly hold a flame to the original. It was fantastic.
Although all of them don't grab too much of my interest, Nathan Fillion is the bees' knees so I'll stay tuned.
Glad to see Alyssa Milano coming back on TV I am Charmed lol
Mmmm, cute couple. But just saw his profile on millionaire&celeb dating site ___Da te Ri ch Si ng les.....C =o= Mlast week. I am wondering what kind of relationship he is looking for on that site.

I hope alyssa hits it big with this series....couldnt abc air it after Samantha Who? that's kinda got the same premies? dont you think? Sam Who fans should like this show. Monday nights: Scrubs, Sam Who, Single with Parents, Boston Legal (if its and hour long show)
The first "Cupid" was great. Maybe if the new version does well, the original will come out on DVD.
Castle and The Unusuals actually sound quite good... however, only one has a chance of lasting: it's like when NBC launched both 30 Rock and Studio 60 back in '06.
Cupid & Castle look good.I'll try the Alyssa Milano one just cause it's from the creators of HIMYM.
Gotta love Nathan Fillion. Will be great to see him again. Not sure about everything else though....
Nathan Fillion. Best thing I've heard all week. And Rob Thomas doing something sounds good. Might check that out.
I hope this works out for Alyssa Milano.
Castle and The unusuals sound the exact same tbh. I like the sound of Cupid and Better Off Ted.

Alyssa Milano cannot top her movie Hugo Pool. That was one of the strangest yet wonderful unseen films. Now that would have been a cool show...

I love Nathan Fillion in everything he does. 'Nuff said.
