ABC picks up Surviving Suburbia

Don't worry, they have pills for that, Bob.

Television avoided a near-catastrophe today: Bob Saget almost didn't make it to the small-screen again. Thankfully, ABC swept in and saved the day, picking up the comedy Surviving Suburbia for its mid-season schedule.

The show was rumored to be in ABC's sights late last week after it was hung out to dry by the failed partnership between Media Rights Capital (MRC) and the CW. MRC was programming the CW's Sunday night schedule, but atrocious ratings forced the CW to cancel the arrangement, thus killing off MRC's programs.

Surviving Suburbia stars Bob Saget as Steve Patterson, a suburban dad who begins to question the norms of cul-de-sac living. ABC describes it as being in the vein of Roseanne and Home Improvement.

The comedy will make its debut Monday, April 6 at 9:30 p.m., where it will follow Dancing with the Stars. So Surviving Suburbia went from being on the CW on Sunday nights to grabbing a prime slot right behind Dancing with the Stars? What sort of deal did Saget make with the Devil? Answer: probably the same one Jim Belushi made for According to Jim.
