ABC Renews Nashville, Scandal, Revenge, OUAT, and Many More, But Cancels Happy Endings

Fashionably late as usual, ABC has finally revealed the fates of many of it shows. And most of the verdicts are pretty much what we expected. Grey's AnatomyScandal, Castle, Suburgatory, Modern Family, The Middle, Once Upon a Time, and Revenge have all been renewed. In a minor surprise, Nashville and The Neighbors have also survived, and will both return for second seasons. And in a WHY-OH-WHY move, Last Man Standing will be back, too.

But there's also bad news. TV.com favorite Happy Endings won't be returning for Season 4, at least not at ABC. The comedy was a longshot for renewal after struggling in the ratings, despite earning much love from critics. However, Jane, Brad, Dave, Alex, Max, and Penny have a chance at a lifeline from USA Network, which has already expressed interest in saving the show.

Also receiving bad news from ABC today were Family Tools, How To Live With Your Parents (For the Rest of Your Life), Malibu Country, Red Widow, and Body of Proof, which have all been canceled. That's one season and done for the two midseason comedies, the Reba McIntyre sitcom, and the mob wife drama, and a three-season run for Body of Proof

What's your favorite move by ABC today?

not surprised Happy Endings got cancelled the way the show was treated from the start. Moving schedules, episodes out of order, long breaks. Great show but why'd they bother with it if they weren't going to support it? Idiotic really. Hope it does get picked up somewhere else.

Happy Endings is a fantastic show and doesn't deserve this, neither do Family Tools and How to Live With your Parents--those shows JUST started! Is ABC unable to grasp the concept of advertising or re-tooling?Half the reason the ratings were low is because no one knew when they were on! It's a damn shame and easily avoidable.

It wasn't fair for ABC to leave Happy Endings stranded on Tuesdays where no one watched it. At the very least they should have tried to keep it alive by having it replace reruns of their Wednesday comedies. It was a unique show and the only sitcom that wasn't family oriented and they should have looked out for it more.

You know something. Happy Endings was a really good, but fully unsupported show. I can tell that and I don't even live in USA. Seems to me like a unique show got overshadowed.

I'm not surprised there's interest from other networks, I just hope it gets a good deal and doesn't get "second boyfriended"

I was just starting to enjoy How to live with your parents. Theres been like 5 episodes. Geez. Yay for Suburgatory! Sad about Happy Endings Such a good show!! And good for Nashville too. Also I did watch Malibu Country even though I knew how awful it was!

"Happy Endings" will undoubtedly be saved. The feel-good fun-time quality of the show is right up there with the likes of "CougarTown" -- on some levels, even better. If one is saved, I don't see why the other wouldn't be. This sitcom will be around for a good while and I will enjoy every moment of it.

I am a great fan of "Last Man Standing," despite the direction it took this season in regards to politics and such. It's not "Home Improvement," but it does the trick for one in search of a good family sitcom that enjoys plenty of laughs while occasionally dealing with heavier subject matter. The cast is very enjoyable as well, so yes, I'm glad it is coming back next year.

"Malibu Country" is, in a word, fun. The premise is solid, the writing is witty and hilarious, and the actors all seem very comfortable in their comedic roles. Lily Tomlin can do no wrong, Sara Rue is my dream date, and Reba McIntyre is an incredibly cute personality I simply cannot get enough of. It is a terrible shame that ABC didn't give this show a fighting chance by allowing for better scheduling and a full season. How this comedy got the axe while "The Neighbors" made a clean getaway is beyond my comprehension. I will most certainly miss this show.

As for "Body of Proof," I had mixed feelings about this show. I highly enjoyed the first two seasons, mainly because it had an established cast, included more light-hearted comedy, and lacked too many dark elements that most other crime/medical dramas do. I was pleased when it was renewed last year, though unsure how it would be received given the change of cast. Unfortunately, the comedy has almost completely left the show, there is plenty more blood and gore, and there is no shortage of dark storylines. While still watchable and fairly enjoyable, it has lost its charm that once set it apart from other shows of the same genre. Am I disappointed to see it go? Absolutely. But am I surprised? I think it would've had a better chance for renewal had it stuck with its original format. Ah well....

I so hope your right about Happy Endings. Fingers crossed for USA to do the right thing.
The new actress who plays the oldest daughter on Last Man Standing hasn't worked for me. I was pretty surprised when they replaced her.

Glad Scandal was renewed it's a stunningly good show, really shouldn't work for me on paper (40 year old male) but the quality of the writing, drama, acting is just first class.

Totally obvious Grey's Anatomy and Scandal were coming back, totally sad about Happy Endings though...bad decision!

Body of Proof was acceptable filler (barely) for me the first two seasons, but this 3rd season was a lot more wow, even though it barely did long-story-arcs. I still think if the main character hadn't been SO overbearing, it might have done better.

I'm pleasantly surprised The Neighbors got another season. Silly & stupid, but they still make me laugh more than roll my eyes.

I'm so glad they decided to keep Nashville. Sure, it's soapy and all that, but I really enjoy it along with Connie Britton and Hayden Panetierre. I'm also glad they decided to keep Suburgatory.

I'm really happy and not the least bit surprised for scandal, my new favorite drama. I am so watching the finale next week!! And the neighbors, was renewed *Sigh of relief. I'm still surprised that I enjoy it. Yea surbagatory! I hope they find a way to bring Ryan Shay back. luv that guy

At least ABC hasn't been the disappointment NBC has for some of my favorite sit-coms this past week. Though I'm sad to see Reba and Happy Ending go bye-bye at least the news isn't as dire as at the peacock network. ABC renewed several shows I like: The Neighbors, Suburgatory and Last Man Standing ( I'm one of the few that likes this show).

And ABC bills "How To Live With Your Parents" as a hit new comedy. If it's such a hit ABC why are you cancelling it?

I am so bummed about Happy Endings. I knew it was a long shot, but still.... Hopefully USA saves it.

Red Widow is not half as bad ! Some network should continue it. After all there is already a story from the European side.

red widow is not that bad but the ratings r an embarrassment to the network, it got a 0.8 its finale a scandal and revenge repeat even does better than that

Not really surprised on the shows that were cancelled. How to live with your parents it was ok but no shock there. Family tools looked pretty dumb. Malibu county I love Reba but this show just didn't have anything good for me. I'm surprised last man standing is back..

Wow Body of Proof had been on for three seasons???? Had no clue lmao. I guess I was so uninterested in the show that I thought it had literally just started this year lmao.

There was 0 chance that Nashville was getting cancelled unless eitherof the leading ladies decided to walk away. Surprised they even drew out that announcement so long.

And really Castle is the only other thing on ABC worth a damn (with the exception of this seasons DWTS '<3 you kellie!!!', and even Castle is going downhill. ABC is in danger of being in NBC territories soon if something does not change.

All I can say is Revenge better bring their A-game to s3 because s2 was very uneven, to say the least....Emily needs to go back to revenging....there were way too many distractions this season!
1
Reply
Flag
Perhaps there were, but it's been soapy fun all the way IMO. For this show to last a while it's gonna need some distractions otherwise she could have eliminated one person in one episode... The last episodes of season 2 have started getting better again.

No, I was able to enjoy the season even with all the distractions, but the point is if they were written in the show then make them actually serious, otherwise its like we had the Initiative but we never got to see Ems facing them herself, its like everyone but Ems had to deal with those people who seemed like they have all the power in the world yet could so easily be killed off. Same with the Falcon, maybe it would be better if the Falcon sl, was kept unknown for longer? Anyway, lets see what happens on Sunday!

I started watching Body of Proof and really was enjoying it. It was reminiscent of Crossing Jordan, a great show cancelled at its peak with no closure(the cast was in a plane which was about to crash).

!!!!! I really hope USA picks up Happy Endings, it has to. I was upset to see ABC canceled it of course but I feel like if they didn't, we'd all be going through this again next year. So maybe hopefully fingers crossed, another network picks it up and treats it like it should be treated and we won't have to worry so much. But for now, yes, I'll be worrying.

I'm glad they kept Last Man Standing. It's about the only comedy I can watch with kids, and I've always liked Tim Allen. But mostly I'm glad they kept my favorites in the Wednesday night lineup, The Middle, Modern Family, and Suburgatory. Still think they shoulda never let Cougar Town go. That was a two-hour block of pure awesome, and The Neighbors just isn't on par with the other Wed. nite ABC comedies. But......I should not be surprised by goofy moves from an network who greenlit the Reba McIntyre show. I mean, yeah, 10 out of 10 for cancelling it guys, but minus several million for putting it on the air in the first place.

Umm.. if Malibu Country got yanked, how did Last Man Standing survive?? I liked Tim's show the first season, but after they up and switched the oldest daughter for a new actress, I just couldn't get into it. They completely changed the character's personality from season one which made it worse, and I know a lot of other fans felt the same way.

Really happy about Nashville! I love Scandal and Grey's, but there was no question they were going to be renewed, so I wasn't really "rooting" for it. But Nashville: yeah, I was worried! And now very ecstatic ^^
