Shonda Rhimes is staying busy. The television producer will have at least two shows on ABC next season, thanks to ABC renewing new series Scandal for Season 2. The news comes straight from Shonda herself, via her Twitter feed:
Am super proud to say that @ScandalABC has been picked for a 2nd season!!!Am doing a little dance of joy.Still waiting to hear on PP...— shonda rhimes (@shondarhimes) May 11, 2012
Scandal, starring Kerry Washington as a Washington, D.C. "fixer" who specializes in repairing the images of politicians, celebrities, and business people, has done well in its limited run this season (check out Lily's review of this week's episode!). ABC scheduled it after Grey's Anatomy on Thursdays, one of Rhimes' other ABC shows.
The move was good for Scandal but may have actually hurt Rhimes' third show on the network. Private Practice, which was bumped to make room for Scandal, still has not received a renewal or cancellation verdict from ABC. UPDATE: Private Practice has since been renewed, along with Last Man Standing, Body of Proof, and Don't Trust the B---- in Apartment 23.
Not surprisingly, ABC also canceled GCB after a disappointing first season. The over-the-top soap about Texas women starred Kristin Chenoweth and Leslie Bibb, but never took off. It was the topic of many headlines when it was announced, as its original name was Good Christian Bitches. Shockingly, people had a problem with the name.
Okay, let's hear it! Are you happy to hear that Scandal's been renewed? Will you miss GCB?
