Alan Cumming to guest star on The L Word

Alan Cumming, who recently starred in the Showtime TV movie Reefer Madness, will be joining the cast of the network's lesbian drama The L Word.

Cumming has agreed to appear as a guest star in six episodes of the series' third season, which is currently in production. He will take the role of Billie Blaikie, a hard-partying promoter hired by Kit Porter to manage her nightclub. Though Billie is a savvy businessman, he and Kit will butt heads over personal differences.

Cumming's role as the Emcee in the 1998 Broadway musical Cabaret earned him a Tony and many other awards. He has appeared in many successful films, including The Anniversary Party (which he also co-wrote), Eyes Wide Shut, the Spy Kids trilogy, and X2: X-Men United. This will be Cumming's first long run on an American TV series.

The anniversy party (which he wrote and directed with his wife Jennifer Jason Leigh) is one of my more favorite indie movies of the last decade.
