AMC Sets Premiere Date for Fifth and Final Season of Hell on Wheels

All good things must come to an end, and in the case of Cullen Bohannon, the beginning of that end finally has a premiere date. The fifth and final season of AMC's period drama Hell On Wheels will debut Saturday, July 18 at 9pm. Much like the final seasons of network brethren Breaking Bad and Mad Men, the season will be split in two halves, with the first seven episodes airing this summer and the final seven airing in 2016.

The new season will explore the battle between the Central Pacific and Union Pacific Railroads. Cullen (Anson Mount) will travel to the mountain town of Truckee, California, the home of the Central Pacific Railroad and thousands of Chinese workers, who are foreign in language, culture, and traditions. Despite the challenges, he'll still attempt to tunnel through the Sierra Nevada Mountains in the race to complete the first Transcontinental Railroad.

Are you ready for more Hell on Wheels?

I too think this is the best "western" TV show in years!!! It is so interesting to see all the facts that have been incorporated into this exciting show while adding additional characters that keep us wanting more!! I thought season five would never get here and now I have to wait till summer of 2016 to see the final seven episodes???? I of course will wait but not patiently!!!! I agree that if the show was going to be run for two more years, why not give us 14 episodes of season 5 and 14 episodes (of a season 6) in 2016??

I love the show, a truly out of the ordinary western! It has a great story line, great writers, even greater actors. It is such a fun, exciting show to watch. Now we only get 2 half seasons. If you want it to run for two more years, give us two more full seasons, don't be so damn cheap! P.S. I'll still watch it.

Split seasons suck. To many other activities and shows to get hung out to dry when they split a show up, can't keep up so my interest goes away.

Been watching since Day 1! Great story line. Nothing like it on TV today. Hate to see it go. I will especially miss my weekly dose of Anson Mount as Cullen Bohannon. I may have withdrawals!!

Top shelf entertainment. Hell on wheels, was a welcome departure from police, vampires, witches, doctors, lawyers and single pregnant teen mums. I'll miss it.

It's about time that AMC finally decided when to air the episodes. Like most of the posters, I'm happy about the split final season, but I guess it's better than it being cancelled after four seasons.

This is one of few shows that was able to bounce back from a terrible season, the second, and I'm looking forward to the final season.

Personally, I enjoyed the second season but thought the third was absolute garbage. Four had some pretty weak spots, but I'm still looking forward to how they wrap it all up.

Great show, really looking forward to this season. Just suck that AMC keep splitting their final seasons of shows into two halfs. Both Mad Men and Breaking Bad suffered a little bit from it, or maybe it was me who suffered from having to wait a stupid amount of time?
