American Hustle, Gravity Lead Oscar Nominations

American Hustle and Gravity topped Thursday's Academy Award nominations with 10 each, with the former landing nods in all four acting categories.

The films will face off with Captain PhillipsDallas Buyers ClubHerNebraska, Philomena12 Years a Slave and The Wolf of Wall Street for best picture.

For the second year in a row, David O. Russell scored acting nods in all four races. Hustle stars Amy Adams is up for Best Actress, Christian Bale for Best Actor, Bradley Cooper for Best Supporting Actor and Jennifer Lawrence for Best Supporting Actress. Hustle is the 15th film to receive acting nods in all four categories, just a year after Silver Linings Playbook became the first movie in 31 years to do so.

Russell received his second consecutive directing nomination. His competition includes Alfonso Cuaron (Gravity), Alexander Payne (Nebraska), Steve McQueen (12 Years a Slave) and Martin Scorsese (The Wolf of Wall Street).

Adams, a four-time Oscar loser, is up against all previous winners: Cate Blanchett (Blue Jasmine), Sandra Bullock (Gravity), Judi Dench (Philomena) and Meryl Streep (August: Osage County). Already the most-nominated performer in Oscar history, Streep extended her record to 18 nods.

In Best Actor, Bale knocked out Tom Hanks (Captain Phillips) and will vie for his second Oscar against Bruce Dern (Nebraska), Leonardo DiCaprio(The Wolf of Wall Street), Chiwetel Ejiofor (12 Years a Slave) and Matthew McConaughey (Dallas Buyers Club).
