Anna Paquin finds 'True' calling for HBO

Oscar winner Anna Paquin is making her first foray into series television as the lead in True Blood, an HBO drama pilot from the creator of Six Feet Under.

Ryan Kwanten and Sam Trammell have also been cast in the project, which Alan Ball wrote and is set to direct and executive produce.

Based on the Southern Vampire book series by Charlaine Harris, True Blood takes place in a world in which vampires can buy Japanese-made synthetic blood. Their integration into a small Louisiana town causes quite a stir, and a love story ensues between a vampire and Sookie Stackhouse (Paquin), an innocent waitress who can read people's minds.

Kwanten will play the waitress' brother. Trammell will play the owner of the restaurant where she works.

Paquin's upcoming credits include the films Margaret and Blue State, as well as HBO's Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee. She also has appeared in the X-Men film trilogy, The Squid and the Whale, Almost Famous, and The Piano, the latter of which earned her a supporting-actress Oscar in 1994.

I am a huge fan of the sookie stackhouse books by charlaine harris and I really don't see anna as sookie in my mind shes too your and skinny no curves ect.. sookie in the books just doesn't sound or look like anna to me I really hope the tv show works out but I do have my doubts just because of all the bad casting choices really just a lot of people that none of the books fans would have ever picked I wish them the best of luck though and in truth I would love it if I was proved wrong !

It can arguably be said that name actors who try to make it big on TV do so because they've failed to make it big in movies and are hoping this will put them into the spotlight. It would surprise me, but could this be Anna's case? I mean she's an oscar-winning actress who's mostly known to the mass public as "Rogue from X-Men". So why would a serious actress go do a vampire show? Unless she's a fan of the books...
