When The Apprentice returns next week for its fifth season, Donald Trump won't be exaggerating when he crows about its being "huge": The season-five kickoff will feature giant dirigibles, aka blimps.
The blimps will be put to use by the competing teams as they try to sell memberships to big-box retailer Sam's Club. The two teams, the aptly named Synergy and the hopeful-sounding Gold Rush, go head-to-head after Trump, in a series first, picks their respective leaders.
This season marks the most diverse group of candidates, including people hailing from the former USSR, England, and Canada, as well as a MENSA member. NBC has also promised an appearance by Trump's daughter Ivanka.
The Apprentice moves to its new night this season, Mondays at 9 p.m., after four seasons in the Thursday 9 p.m. slot. Ratings for the show fell last season, and the spin-off, The Apprentice: Martha Stewart, was a flop.
This week, Trump lashed out at Stewart, saying her show was terrible and that it harmed ratings of his show. Stewart retaliated by calling Trump "mean-spirited."

I'm sorry, but I wonder why this show is successful. Is it because it is a good interesting show, or because of the money involved?<br />

Is the human mind so infatuated with competition and who is better and bigger than everyone else?
Why did they ever think that The Apprentice: Martha Stewart was a good idea?
Blimps, LA, International Flavor, all well and good. We can only hope that the challenges are more like first season and less like the product placement orgies of the past several seasons. Also, hopefully, this seasons apprentices will have some personality.
