Are the Newest Smallville residents the Wonder Twins?

Oh, Smallville. Every time we want to dismiss you as dead and tired, you go and do something totally awesome. Last season, the exodus of Lex Luthor and Lana Lang made us think you'd started drinking the Kryptonite Kool-Aid, but the addition of Doomsday caught the interest of our inner comic geek. And this season? Well, you've gone and done it again!

Casting calls were filled last week for a pair of siblings who will appear in the fifth episode of the upcoming season; Smallville spoiler site Kryptonsite.com broke the news that 7th Heaven alum David Gallagher would fill the role of Tanner, and One Tree Hill actress Allison Scagliotti would play his sis, Twyla.

Hmmm ... "Tanner" and "Twyla." A brother and a sister. In a show that explores the pubescent lives of DC Comics characters. Yeah, this has Wonder Twins written all over it, and The CW has confirmed to TV.com that the new kids will indeed be our favorite shapeshifting siblings, Zan and Jayna. Form of ... awesome.

The Wonder Twins are probably best remembered from the 1970s and early-1980s Super Friends animated program. Though not major characters, they provided comic relief when Batman and Superman were just too darned stern. They also uttered one of cartoon history's greatest catchphrases -- "Wonder Twin Powers, activate" -- which they accompanied with the fist bump (before it was hip). And Zan's power to transform into water of any form goes down in the record books as one of the most embarrassing abilities in the history of comics; the guy jumped into a bucket and turned into water for heaven's sake. Jayna, meanwhile, can transform into any animal she pleases -- way cooler, no?

With their pale skin, jet-black hair, and pointy ears, the Twins will likely maneuver around Smallville as the new Goth kids on the block, wearing Godsmack t-shirts or whatever else they find on the racks of Hot Topic. But the real question here is, will they have their pet monkey, Gleek?

c'mon people, RELAX, its a TV show! and for cryin out loud how can you NOT want to see them do their version of the WONDER TWINS?!?!? itll be either great, hilarious or both. everyone posting on here is so friggin negative! you HAVE to give this show credit for making REDICULOUS comic characters work in the real world - and i cant wait to see how believable they make the wonder twins - sure, maybe this show has stretched on a little too long and suffered for it - but SHUT UP and just enjoy it cuz you could be watching something REALLY dumb like The Hills or Melrose Place! ill bet half you idiots didnt like superman returns either - as far as im concerned Smallville goes down as the coolest addition to the superman mythos yet. as if you could write something better....

This sound cool. But would it be against canon to introduce the Green Lantern Corp in their final season with a decent story arc? I may be asking for alot. They aren't going to touch Bat's and WW after all. And we can forget about Hawkman's people. Or even concentrate on some of the cool DC heroes they already have and some respective villains. Well at least this is the last.

This doesn't sound good, pretty lame is right. Is this trying to hit someone's demographic? I don't get it. The only positive for Smallville this year is that it is on 8pm on Friday & won't be up against anything else on TV.

Lame. Apparently they have no new ideas. This is Smallville, but the show is now almost entirely in Metropolis, Clark still can't fly now nearly five years out of high school, and the only good villain that made since with the Superman timeline is gone. Please, make this the last season and don't repeat the mistake of going too long with Supernatural.

Heck, and it isn't even April! ;)

Seriously, though, did it occur to anyone that the producers MIGHT have had the foresight and ingenuity to come up with a whole new set of characters, never seen before in the DC comic universe, to enthrall Smallville viewers? (yeah, who am I kidding? I pretty much had to laugh at that myself!) ;)

There's only one character with Wonder in her name that I want to see. Unless the wonder twins can take the shape of a 6ft tall magical amazon they need to stay as far away as possible.

the producers really are trying to suck the show dry. any introduction of the Wonder Twins shouldve been done in like the third season. the show is supposed to be Clark Kent growing up in Smallville and how he became Superman. i guess the producers havent noticed yet, but Clark is grown up, and hes rarley in Smallville anymore. So when is he going to become Superman?? at this rate Clark will be 40 before that happens

I suppose the addition of Bruce Wayne // Batman wasn't considered as it might cause a fracture in the continuity for the recent Batman movie franchise. However, it would have been the perfect way to introduce the future patnership and life long friendship of these two icons!

Perhaps there would have been too many similarities between Green Arrow and Batman --- as there alter egos are both social high rollers, party boys and own huge multifacted enterprises.

Either way -- DC comics isn't likely to damage there current "golden goose" by allowing Batman or even a pre-batman / Bruce Wayne make a cameo appearence. Better to rely on the less popular "heros" for supporting roles!

But, honestly - the Wonder Twins !!??!! GIVE YOUR HEAD A SHAKE!!!

That great sucking sound is Smallville going down the drain. Give me a break! The Wonder Twins? Oh well, at least Smallville's loss will be a gain for Warehouse 13 (a.k.a. addition by subtraction). Hopefully, Allison Scagliotti will have less time to appear in her poorly crafted, poorly acted role on WH-13, and spend more of her time hastening the end of Smallville. I won't comment on her wonder bro, as I've never watched 7th Heaven.

So when they could have done any number of other things...bring in a young Bruce Wayne, for instance...they do this. It could work, but I certainly wouldn't have done it.

Is this a joke, i'm not sure?

Of all the characters they could have pulled into the show, they had to pick the freaking Wonder Twins . Come on!, why did it have to be them. Atleast I sort of like both those actors, so it won't make it that hard to watch. If this is going to be the last season, they better not mess it up with lame/tired story lines, they need to pump things up.

Always good to see David Gallagher in any role - Just a shame I don't watch SMALLVILLE anymore perhaps I should resume watching it.

Ughh the wonder twins? I guess her power is cool but I have to admit they probably could have made a better choice from the DC universe.

I am really excited for the Wonder Twins, because i feel like Smallville really has to kick it into high gear this season to make their potentially final season awesome.
