Andrew McCarthy loves the '80s!
A pair of CW spinoffs landed a pair of big names for pilot episodes, roping in a pop singer and a former teen idol in lead roles. Ashlee Simpson, sister of Jessica and wife of Fall Out Boy's Pete Wentz, is heading over to the new Melrose Place, and Pretty in Pink's Andrew McCarthy is headed back to the 1980s in the Gossip Girl prequel.
Actress-turned-singer-turned-actress Ashlee Simpson-Wentz moves into Melrose Place as Violet, a wide-eyed small-town girl who recently relocated to Los Angeles, says The Hollywood Reporter. But she's not all squeaky clean--she's harboring a secret. Though more well-known for her music career (and being the sister of Jessica Simpson), Simpson-Wentz has dabbled in acting and previously had a recurring role in the WB's 7th Heaven.
Like many Brat Packers before him, Andrew McCarthy has officially made the transition from mysterious teen heartthrob to cool dad, landing a role on the Gossip Girl spinoff tentatively titled Lily. McCarthy would play Rick Rhodes, a music executive and father to the main character. The show's 1980s setting will be familiar territory for McCarthy, as fans of 1980s films will remember McCarthy as Blane from Pretty in Pink and the man who fell in love with a piece of plastic in Mannequin. Most recently, he appeared in NBC's Lipstick Jungle.
In talks to play Lily's mom is Cynthia Watros, who is best known as Libby from ABC's Lost, says E! Online.
Does the addition of Ashlee Simpson make you want to watch the new Melrose Place more or less?

i probably won't be watching due to the bad quality of the 90210 spinoff. ashlee simpson makes me want to watch as i like her, but not enough to watch it. I will definately be tuning into anything Gossip Girl related, at least up to the 7th ep, unless it is mindnumbingly awful, which i doubt.
I can not wait to see these shows. I hope that the Gossip Girl prequel is the one who does not suffer from these two.
Yeah i agree but 90210 is interesting YET to me... Gossip Girl i love it (im my own Kristen Bell from my school!!) but now a spin-off... mmm... i agree What the Hex is Happening?!?!?

So 90210 got renewed and it's not as half as good as the first one. Gossip Girl which isn't as good as it was is getting a crappy spin-off and now a ounce good show is being renewed ! What is happening ?!
I didn't watch the original Melrose Place and I'll pass on the remake. I really don't understand the facsination with remaking shows that were good the first time around.
I'll probably look at both pilots and then make a judgement.
I like that people like Ashlee Simpson and Mischa Barton are going to be on the same show. It's like everyone you don't like moving into the same neighborhood: All you have to do is avoid that neighborhood.Melrose Place producers and casting director: interested in making the Kardashian sisters and Paris Hilton unavailable for other projects, too?
Will not watch new melrose cause ashlee is on, Just like stopped watching 90210 cause tori is going to be on.

Not to crazy about Ashley Simpson should get Jessica Biel everyone likes her. I'm sorry Ashley SImpson can't act . Who know between now and when it airs she may be replaced. lol. I'm getting excited about Gossip Girl spin off I like Andrew McCarthy.
