Ashlee Simpson on The Oprah Winfrey Show

Ashlee Simpson, who fled from Saturday Night Live's stage after a technical mishap exposed her lip-synching ways, will return to television with a performance on The Oprah Winfrey Show this fall. The visit will occur shortly before the release of Simpson's sophomore album, "I Am Me."

Word has been circulating that Simpson was planning to revisit the scene of her embarrassment in a reprised SNL appearance, but it looks like her late-night redemption will have to wait. According to her manager father Joe Simpson, "We are going to push SNL back because we are doing The Oprah Winfrey Show for one hour. [Oprah] is going to be the first interview and the first place where Ashlee sings."

The pop starlet and her representatives did everything in their power to gloss over the lip-synching debacle, including giving the dubious excuse of hoarseness due to acid reflux disease. "Just like any artist in America, she has a backing track that she pushes so you don't have to hear her croak through a song on national television," said her father. "No one wants to hear that." Unfortunately, fans would not be mollified, and Simpson was booed off the stage at January's FedEx Orange Bowl football game.

Though Simpson has not exactly taken full responsibility for her gaffe, she reportedly addresses the subject in two of the songs on "I Am Me," which will be released on October 18. In addition to recording the album, the young singer spent much of the year working on Undiscovered, a film about an aspiring model and a struggling musician who fall in love after meeting on a New York subway. Undiscovered hits theaters Friday, August 25.

I am so proud that ashlee's father, joe did what he did for ashlee to hold off the SaturdayNightLive, because it was so embrassing for her to be booed like that last year in 2005.

But i am also happy that she'll be on Oprah in this upcoming Fall Season in 2006.

And i'm also proud that she is doing something else in her life to re-group after that disastorous turn of lip-synching on live tv.

So, Ashlee screwed up. My question to you is, "Who hasn't"? We love them when they're on top, and can't wait to throw stones at them when they're down. Ashlee's biggest mistake was less of the lip syncing itself, and more of the lack of personal responsibility in accepting responsibility for the debacle on SNL, which is probably a good indicator of her father being 99% money grubbing manager and 1% actual parent.

Maybe it's time to give the girl a break, let's give her the chance to redeem herself. As far as talent? Sure, she has some otherwise we wouldn't bother talking about her. She's not a powerful singer, but she has her own kind of gruff niche she is carving for herself. I think when she grows the hell up, she might actually make something of herself if she can unchain herself from dear old Dad.

Now lets not get out of hand here...there is no reason that girl should ruin perfectly good sundaes! Maybe frie girl at McDonalds would be better for her first job.
If those girls didn't have their father molding and using every inch of them to his advantage they would probably be still be in Texas singing in a choir somewhere. Having to work as hard as everyone else does in this world to make a living and etch out a cozy place to call their own.
Unfortunately, the state of the world being what it is; they can't tell the difference between chicken and buffalo; don't know how to cut up vegetables; can't do their own laundry; and have to wear thongs worth a fortune!
I had thought Oprah was going downhill, but had no idea how low till now.

This is a pity party for poor Ashlee. Its a shame that someone with as little talent as her can make a dollar doing what she does. I won't call it sing, cause we know she can't do that. I think Oprah loses some credibility even letting her do the show. This is the perfect example of corporate rock trying their hardest to push someone on America's daughters by forcing it into their lives. Its just too bad for us all that we even know who she is. She's better suited to work at Dairy Queen.

ouch. honestly i dont know how she could lie about it. just come out and say it already. She lipsynched, or maybe she should say that she made a mistake and admit her mistake. but "my drummer pressed the wrong button?" ok. so much for denial. shes blaming the poor drummer for her mistakes

Parent managers are the death of entertainment. As a parent you tell your kids, "You can be whatever you want to be." Well lets face it Jessica can't and shouldn't act, she has a good voice but sings the wrong music for it. Ashlee can't do anything, she is a Tito Jackson(know your role!). When you become a adult star parents need to be parents and you need to hire someone that will tell you, "Hey reality is you can't be everything you want just because you have the opportunity!"

People talk as if Oprah has some credibility, but it's all about the money with her. Joe Simpson bought his daughter a spot on a show that people watch.

Dear God, she still has a career? What is this world coming to? Neither her nor her sister have any talent whatsoever.

Poor Oprah. I hope she doesn't expect real talent when she performs for her audience.

Maybe she should just stay out of the spotlight for good. I can't think of anyone who actually likes her.
