Ashlee Simpson on The Oprah Winfrey Show

Ashlee Simpson, who fled from Saturday Night Live's stage after a technical mishap exposed her lip-synching ways, will return to television with a performance on The Oprah Winfrey Show this fall. The visit will occur shortly before the release of Simpson's sophomore album, "I Am Me."

Word has been circulating that Simpson was planning to revisit the scene of her embarrassment in a reprised SNL appearance, but it looks like her late-night redemption will have to wait. According to her manager father Joe Simpson, "We are going to push SNL back because we are doing The Oprah Winfrey Show for one hour. [Oprah] is going to be the first interview and the first place where Ashlee sings."

The pop starlet and her representatives did everything in their power to gloss over the lip-synching debacle, including giving the dubious excuse of hoarseness due to acid reflux disease. "Just like any artist in America, she has a backing track that she pushes so you don't have to hear her croak through a song on national television," said her father. "No one wants to hear that." Unfortunately, fans would not be mollified, and Simpson was booed off the stage at January's FedEx Orange Bowl football game.

Though Simpson has not exactly taken full responsibility for her gaffe, she reportedly addresses the subject in two of the songs on "I Am Me," which will be released on October 18. In addition to recording the album, the young singer spent much of the year working on Undiscovered, a film about an aspiring model and a struggling musician who fall in love after meeting on a New York subway. Undiscovered hits theaters Friday, August 25.
