AusNTM 2011 Recap: Episode 10 - Fierce Fists, Flirty Fashion and ... Pancakes?

We recap episode 10 of Australia's Next Top Model Cycle 7.

This week, the girls cage fight and pose in lingerie.

But this time it kind of feels like the whole episode is all about Liz. And, just to prove it, we're allocating her every sub-heading -- because it would be lying to do otherwise.

Liz Has a Red Belt in Taekwondo

The ep starts with the usual Sarah Mail. We like that they're all "chilling outside having cups of tea" (says Izzy), looking all picturesque and cute. Yeah right; it's the middle of winter! Why would they be sitting outside at 5am in mid winter? We are so not convinced. And as if they drink tea. Scoff.

The SMS from hostess-with-the-leastess (sic) Sarah Murdoch says, "Your new friends will become your foes". The girls all look warily at each other. You can almost hear them hoping for a cat fight.

"Maybe we'll be in sumo suits!" pipes Simone. Mmm, yeah, maybe! Or, you know, not.

So, Charlotte Dawson meets the girls and informs them that they will be ... cage fighting? Um, OK. Sure. This ... fits with the rest of the competition ... in every way ...

Apparently, the way in which punching things ties into the competition is that it's all to do with body confidence. Got that?

Most of the girls are a little apprehensive, but not Liz. She has a red belt in taekwondo! (She didn't go on to get a black belt, because she "would have had to learn Korean", and that would be stretching her "intelligence" to breaking point.)

In the locker room after the lesson, Rachel's phone beeps and she says, in her monotonous, rehearsed-surprise voice, "Oh my God. Sarah Mail".

"Make sure you don't stack up short," Sarah's nonsensical mail says this time. Sometimes puns just don't work, you guys.

"I didn't know what stacking up short meant. I mean, when you're a model, you don't wanna be short ..." says Izzy, who is sounding more and more like Simone every day. Just stick a few "like"s in there, and she's got her nailed!

Just as a point of interest, on the way to their challenge, the girls walk six-abreast down the street -- too bad if anyone wanted to pass them in the opposite direction.

And how do they all look so awesome in their gym clothes? When dressed to go exercising, we always look like messy slobs! Oh, the injustices of the world.

For once (OK, it's happened more than once, but surprisingly not that often), the challenge actually centres on what they learned in the lesson. They will be ... (wait for it) ... auditioning for a role in a Short Stack video clip. A cage fighting role!

Gosh, it's almost as if this challenge was made for Liz. Designed specifically for her to actually win something, one might say.

Anyway, the girls meet Short Stack, who try to be all rock 'n' roll, and then the girls walk backstage to learn their moves -- and are immediately confronted by the sight of a bunch of even bitchier girls warming up for the audition. It's an open audition! Do our models have any chance of winning against these professional dancers/martial arts athletes? (Of course they do; do you doubt it for even a second?)

Of course, Liz kicks literal ass, and Izzy is pretty good, too. The boys want Simone, because she has "the right look for Short Stack" (read: they think she's hot and want her for themselves), but she kinda sucks at the whole being tough thing.

It's funny watching Rachel try to be fierce. She does this little "come at me" wave at the end of her routine, which is just so out of character. "That was a bit like Bruce Lee," Short Stack (they don't have singular names) comment. Like they would know! Any boy band that names themselves after a cutesy meal of pancakes cannot know anything about cage fighting.

Liz Wins the Reward

Duh, of course she does. She had a massive advantage.

Izzy and Liz (can we call them Lizzzy as a collective?) are dressed in short shorts, short T-shirts, long, black wigs and lots of make-up. They basically look like the same person, except that Liz is actually tanned. Hint hint, Izzy.

Get a tan.

Lizzzy do actually end up looking pretty awesome, though. They're way better than the guys in the video, not to mention all the random extras pounding on the cage walls. And Short Stack, who's singing from on top of the cage. Seriously, Lizzzy are the highlight of this music video.

Don't believe us? You can check out the whole video clip below, if you're into that kind of thing.

Liz's Boyfriend is a Jerk

So, back in granny's parlour room where the landline phone is kept (are their super-fancy mobiles reserved purely for Sarah Mail?), Liz finds out that her boyfriend has been cheating on her. He kissed another girl at a party on the weekend. "I don't even remember it," he whines, in typical male fashion.

Awkward! But, hey, it was the first legitimately sad moment of the season. Poor Liz. She ain't the brightest bulb in the chandelier, but she is a sweetheart.

Liz has No Confidence When Wearing Lingerie

The girls are taken to a boudoir-lookin' place for this week's photo shoot, where Aussie "super"model Alexandra Agoston just happens to be having photos taken of her in lingerie. She feigns surprise at seeing the girls, and then tells them what their challenge will be.

For those who haven't noticed the decor and what Alexandra is wearing, it's going to be a lingerie shoot.

The girls get styled, and Alexandra remains on set to give them advice and guidance.

She doesn't need to help Montana at all, though, who as usual is flawless, darling. Meanwhile, Simone thinks that Simone's the best thing ever, as usual. Probably because she is the best thing ever. (What's that? You're not supposed to know we have a favourite?)

Apart from Simone and Montana, though, the girls all crumble one by one.

Izzy stays in the exact same position the whole time, refusing to move around, because doing her usual thing keeps getting her in the bottom two every time. Their mentor Josh Flinn is on hand to chastise her afterwards for being such an idiot. Izzy cries.

Liz does her shoot and is told how gorgeous she is etc, but she gets slightly hysterical afterwards when Josh asks if she was comfortable, because she's convinced that she looks fat. Liz cries.

Aw, Liz. You so pretty. Don't let boys make you think that you're fat and gross.

Hazel will also only do one pose, which is the front-on gaze into the camera. Alexandra gets annoyed at her. Rachel moves around really awkwardly and frankly looks quite awful, in our opinion. Rachel cries.

End scene!

Liz Thinks She's Fat

The judges are extremely impressed with Montana and Liz's photos, but Liz doesn't like hers.

"I look like a have a keg," she says with disgust.

"What -- you mean your belly ?"Sarah asks incredulously.

Want to know what a keg looks like?

We wish we had kegs.

Alex Perry worries that they're all losing faith in Liz because she has no faith in herself.

The judges are sick of Hazel's front-on poses. Personally, we think her photo sucks this week mainly because she was dressed in the ugliest lingerie ever.

The judges don't like Izzy's photo, either, and, awkwardly enough, she agrees. "You know what? This is a disappointing shot, but I can do better. If I stay longer, I can do better!" she pleads. It's incredibly awkward watching her beg for her life.

The judges say Simone's photo is a bit cheesy (according to Simone's Twitter, this elimination occurred on her 18th birthday), but Alexandra thinks it looks quite "editorial".

The judges deliberate, tell us that this is an extremely hard decision, with Hazel and Izzy ending up in the bottom two.

Surprise double elimination!

Happy birthday, Simone! You're in the final four instead of the final five!

Sidebar: did Simone get a spray tan somewhere between the photo shoot and the elimination? Compare (and also note the look of pleased shock on her face when Izzy and Hazel are gonesies):

Maybe it was a birthday present?

Anyways, say goodbye to Izzy and Hazel, and say hello to the final four!

Liz Factor: 10/10 (someone's the judges' new favourite!)

Body Confidence Factor: 5/10

Australia's Next Top Model airs 7:30pm Mondays on Fox8.
