Australia has Grand Designs

Peter Maddison will be documenting Grand Designs Australia.

The eagerly awaited Australian version of the hit British home building show, Grand Designs will premiere next month on the LifeStyle Channel.

Shot over a period of 12 months on various project sites, the program documents the trials facing house builders from inception to completion of their dream properties.

"We have been following the incredibly ambitious and emotional journeys of our self-builders for over a year to bring their inspirational Australian stories to life," said Nicole Sheffield, general manager of the LifeStyle channels.

The inevitably complex and complicated designs that will be shown in Grand Designs Australia will document the breadth and variety of projects, in various stunning locations in far-flung parts of the country.

The show will be hosted by respected architect, Peter Maddison.

Maddison had this to say about the new project: "I am really enjoying hosting Grand Designs Australia. As a practising architect I am fascinated by what I have witnessed travelling around Australia filming a rich and diverse range of Australian home owners. Some are building their dream home, some are living a nightmare. But every one of them has a unique story and drama."

The program is the first international adaptation of the original Channel 4 show, which has been successfully received worldwide through syndication agreements.

Grand Designs Australia premieres Thursday October 21 at 8.30pm on the LifeStyle Channel.
