TEN promises struggling shows will stay, as it reveals its plans for next year.
Network TEN has confirmed some of its key titles for 2010, and they include the return of the 7PM Project and Australian Idol.
All of the TEN's biggest brands in 2009 are back next year, despite some question marks over the heads of some.
TEN has confirmed that the 7PM Project will continue right through summer and into February, which will push shows such as The Biggest Loser to a 7:30pm start. The network remains committed to the news/panel show but concedes it still needs some improvement. It is relying on the show attracting new viewers over summer when lifestyles shift and people experiment more with viewing habits. It also hasn't ruled out some tweaking of the format.
Australian Idol will also return next year. The reality contest is another show that has had a tough year, averaging around one million viewers. But TEN confirmed the show will return for its eighth year. What remains up in the air is what changes the show could undergo for 2010. New host, new judges, new format? The network isn't saying yet.
MasterChef Australia will see a new spin off with Junior MasterChef.
The Biggest Loser, So You Think You Can Dance Australia, Rove, Good News Week, Rush, Bondi Rescue, Bondi Vet and Neighbours are all resuming.
Talkin' 'Bout Your Generation was singled out for especially good news. It will have 21 episodes, and it will begin in February.
TEN is also buoyant about its new US acquisitions, Modern Family, The Cleveland Show and The Good Wife.
It will join returning US shows including Glee, House, NCIS, NCIS: Los Angeles, Dexter, Californication, Burn Notice, Numb3rs, The Simpsons, Lie to Me, Law and Order: SVU and Merlin from the UK. More will be confirmed.
In local dramas TEN has the telemovie Hawke starring Richard Roxburgh and is currently filming Offspring starring Asher Keddie which it hopes will proceed to a series. TEN programmer David Mott described it as Brothers & Sisters meets The Secret Life of Us.
In October, TEN has the 2010 Commonwealth Games which will be staged in Delhi in a time zone-friendly scheduling.
So far the network is yet to reveal its plans for 9am with David and Kim, given David Reyne is exiting the show at the end of the year.
TEN also flagged the launch of a new third channel, to take the place of ONE SD sometime next year.

The Cleveland show was a bit of a shock as 7 have both Family Guy and American Dad. But still very few surprises here, 7PM Report should go though, I just don't see the audience it is supposed to be getting!
I am completely lost as to why the 7pm project is getting a second go as the show has been average at best and has not been able to grab viewers as Teh would have hoped. However I can understand how Australian Idol can get another year to prove itself in a new format with many of the controversial stars (Mark Holden and Kyle Sandilands the most notable) no longer there. Good also to hear that Ten will have another channel sometime next year as they can really benefit from a second channel if the programming is good.
