Bakula leaps to Certain Age

Actor Scott Bakula is probably best known as the time-traveling Dr. Sam Beckett from the early 1990s hit Quantum Leap, and as Captain Jonathan Archer in the Star Trek spin-off Enterprise. But now he's boldly going where one man (Brad Garrett) has gone before: the role of Ray Romano's sidekick.

Bakula is joining the Everybody Loves Raymond star on Men of a Certain Age, a new comedy pilot from TNT, as reported by Variety. The show about old college pals dealing with middle age also stars Andre Braugher of Homicide: Life on the Street fame. Bakula will play an actor named Terry Elliot who tries to make ends meet and has a thing for younger women.

NBC's Heroes has lined up a new character with extraordinary abilities. Ntare Mwine (The Riches) will play an African artist over a nine-episode arc in the series, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Mum is still the word on the specifics of the character's powers.

Actor-director-writer Mario Van Peebles will once again be in front of the cameras on FX's Damages, reprising his role as Agent Harrison. Peebles, who recently appeared on All My Children, is also set to direct an episode of FX's new drama Sons of Anarchy.

Elsewhere, Val Emmich (Cashmere Mafia, 30 Rock) is being groomed for a recurring role as a potential love interest for the title character in Ugly Betty, and Wil Wheaton confessed on his blog that he will be making a guest appearance on Criminal Minds.

I rather that Enterprise had more seasons but that river is dry. I hope that Certain Age is picked up but remenber that Romano was good because of the cast he had, specially the parents.

Scott's new series sounds vaguely like a series out of the UK starring Tony Head, Don Warrington, Nigel Havers, and Gary Burdis called Manchild. That's also a great show. We'll see if Scott's show is good, especially since Ray Romano's in it and I have problems watching him.

I will check Men of a Certain Age out now that Scott Bakula is going to be on it. Also, I'm looking forward to seeing more of Mario Van Peebles when Damages finally starts airing Season 2 early next year (just wish it wasn't so far away!).

I love SB so will be cool to see him in something new. Just a shame they can't do it without Ray Romano and his nasal drone:-)
