Actor Jason Bateman has been doing several media tours recently for his upcoming film Hancock, and when journalists are done talking up Will Smith and details of yet another superhero movie, the next question asked of Bateman is always the same: "So, what's up with the Arrested Development movie, Jayce?"
A film version of the cult comedy has been rumored ever since the Fox comedy was canceled, and talk has recently resurfaced because of passing comments made by the cast but nothing has even been concrete.
Bateman, who was the star of the show, is no doubt privy to whatever wheels may be turning to get the movie made, and from where he sits the prospect of an Arrested Development movie looks good.
In an interview on Countdown with Keith Olberman on MSNBC (video here), Bateman, joined by Arrested costar David Cross, addressed the issue.
"It's in the works. The grown-ups are trying to work out the numbers," Bateman said, jokingly adding, "David is very expensive now."
Olberman also makes reference to a previous Late Night with Craig Ferguson interview with Jeffrey Tambor, who played George Bluth, Sr. and his twin Oscar Bluth on Arrested, who "whispered, 'Arrested Development movie'" on the show.
The London Times has gone as far as to say that the movie is planned for 2009, and several other interviews with Bateman also see him give similar "it's in the works" comments.
The lid on this project obviously isn't being kept on too tight, and it appears that strides are definitely being taken to get this thing in theaters. You may all now join me in saying, "Thank you, Lord!"

I wonder if they'll have inside jokes for fans of the show or if they'll start off fresh? I haven't heard any news lately, so I'll believe it when I see it! I also wonder if Egg will be in it...now George Michael is going to be so much older, I hope he can still pull off the awkward teenager.

This is the greatest news! Now lets hope this results in the show being brought back. Keep in mind that since becoming available on Hulu, Arrested Development has been the #1 viewed show EVERY WEEK! If FOX brought back Family Guy based on DVD sales how can they not bring Arrested back based on these new stats and I'm confident Arrested has high DVD sales as well...so COME ON FOX! Do be such a chicken 'CooCooCooKaCha'
I'm happy to hear they might make a movie, but I would be ecstatic if they brought the show back. Fox was stupid for cancelling it. The fact that they brought back Family Guy gives me hope, but I'm afraid Arrested isn't as popular as FG.
