Battlestar's return dated

For Battlestar Galactica fans, the wait for information related to the fourth and final season of the acclaimed Sci-Fi Channel show has been nothing less than excruciating. Finally, the wait is over. Nerds and geeks looking over their shoulders for the final disguised Cylon can now mark their calendars because an official premiere date was just announced by Sci-Fi.

Season four of Battlestar Galactica will premiere on April 4, just over one year after season three concluded. (The second part of the season-three finale aired on March 25, 2007.)

Currently, the Sci-Fi Channel has announced only a release date; the looming question of whether or not the show will split its 20-episode final season into two parts--and whether or not that second part would air in 2008--is still up in the air.

Earlier this week, Universal Home Entertainment also announced the release date and details for the show's third season on DVD. The Battlestar Galactica Season Three DVD will be in stores on March 25 and carry a suggested retail price tag of $59.98.

All 20 episodes and 15 hours of special features will be contained on six discs and presented in Dolby 5.1 surround sound. Among the special features included are the standard deleted scenes and audio commentary for several episodes, as well as video blogs from executive producer David Eick and podcast commentary from creator Ronald D. Moore. But the real Battlestar Galactica fans will go ga-ga over the extended version of the episode "Unfinished Business," which includes 25 minutes of extra footage.

Universal has not announced any information on a possible high-definition version of the DVD, but given that the season one was released on HD-DVD, it's likely that season three will follow suit in some HD format.

Battlestar Galactica, based on the 1970s show of the same name, premiered in 2003 and won a Peabody Award in 2005 and an Emmy in 2006. For more information on the show, read TV.com's previous coverage.

It's about time we get to see the continuation of the struggle and journey, but it seems too soon to be the last season. Hopefully, it will be smart and engaging, washing away the disdain and forgetfulness of the wait, and making us sad and demanding for more when all said and done. At least they get a conclusion, unlike some other shows, . . so I count it lucky.

Mixed feeling over this news: for one, glad it's finally here, not so glad it's it's final

I'm more concerned that the last season won't get its full run of 20 episodes. I'm content to wait until the end of the writers' strike, so long as we get the second half of the season at some stage, whether it be 2008 or later.

Thank the Gods! Razor was a blessing to tide us over, but they gave us such a cliff-hanger, it is time to give us the rest of the story!

At this point, a possible Season Five is not going to happen. The decision to end the show was a decision made by Eick and Moore, not SciFi or Universal. I think that if it just keeps going, then it's going to get really repetetive and really dull. I'm glad that they're taking the initiative to end it when they want to.

Fabulous news! That sounds awesome about the extra 25 minutes of the episode "Unfinished Business". Wish they would do that more often! :D

The season three DVD will not go on sale until March 25...Are you kidding me? What the heck is up with that? By all means, do let me know if I am out of line saying so, but isn't making dedicated fans wait so long for a DVD just a little bit too 20th century? Get with the program people! This is 2008! Give us what we want, yesterday!

Great news! I've been doing my own BSG marathon of seasons 1-3 for a while now, so it's great to finally have a date for the new season! I just hope they have enough written episodes because I can't see how this strike won't affect BSG as it did with almost every other show on television...

yay, why refer to fans as geeks and nerds, i am proud to be a geek, but not everyone is a geek just for a show they watch. hell people take soaps far more seriously

These script writers are a tenacious bunch, it must be working though, allot of series have been dropped due to the strike, my only worry was that BSG would follow the same fate. thank god the people at Sci Fi understand the huge following which BSG enjoys won´t accept this.

FInally NEWS! I cant wait, i am marking my calendar. I am really hoping for hd-dvd season 2 and 3 though. I think the fear of an unfinished season 4 is a waste of time, there is no way they wont finish it. will w e have to wait? maybe, but eventually it will come. way to many fans to screw over to not give us an ending. plus i still think theres a chance for a season 5, once they realize how sci fi will have NOTHING without BSG. seriously, what else do they ahve that comes even close to BSG? eureka is already old and boring.

Frankly, I'm praying that the show gets finished. It's possible that, if the writers' strike continues for long enough, Battlestar will end prematurely with 13 out of 22 episodes completed.

All around good news. I think we should all come to terms with and expect a split season 4. Whether it takes a full year or not, with the strike continuing.

How did the Season 3 boxset come out so much earlier in Australia? It's been out since early december here.

Well, it's about time. We've waited for a premiere date for Galactica for God-knows-how-long. And we've finally got one.

But Razor wasn't released on HD DVD. And, at this point, HD DVD is probably dead.

But, anyways, the countdown is on to April 5!!!!!
