Best of 2012: What Shows Would You Nominate for "Best New Series"?

The holiday decorations are up at the mall and the Black Friday sale emails are rolling in; for the internet, that means it's time to start thinking about year-end lists. Rest assured, we'll not only be compiling plenty of them—keep an eye out for our annual "Top 100 Everything" call for submissions at the end of next week—we'll also be closing out the current 365-day span with a "Best of 2012" voting extravaganza. But before we begin, we'd like your help in selecting the nominees for some of the major categories, if you please.

Last year, we received several questions from users asking how we select "Best of the Year" nominees. In the past, we've simply brainstormed them as a staff, but this year we'd like to hear from you, too. While we won't be able to run a poll for every single category, we'll definitely be sure to cover the "biggies."

So let's get to it! First up, we have the "Best New Series" competition: Which new shows do you think deserve a spot on the ballot? Let us know by voting in the poll below—the only criteria is that the show debuted in 2012, and you can write in any potential nominees you don't see listed. Then, check back in early December to find out who made the cut and vote for your favorite.

UPDATE: We've closed the write-in option so that we don't have to keep deleting Homeland and Breaking Bad. If you'd like to suggest a legitimately "new in 2012" series, please name it in the comments! And don't worry, we'll be asking for your "Best Overall Series" nominees next!

UPDATE #2: This poll is closed! Check back in early December to vote on the final list of nominees!

We'll be posting additional nominee polls in the coming weeks; are there any special categories you'd like to see in this year's "Best of 2012" feature? Let's hear your ideas in the comments below!

Why are my votes not recording? How do you actually submit your vote? I am clicking on my selection but there is no submit button and once I refresh page my vote is removed and vote tally is back where it was before I voted?

Last Resort
It already has 3.5 million viewers. That sounds like a good foundation to try other time slots or story lines with.

Or you could start over with a new show that has zero viewers and roll the dice.

It makes no sense to scrap something without trying to fix what is there.

Last Resort should this crown and go out with a bang.
Also well, I must include Missing, I hope you guys haven't forgotten this fast paced series starring Ashley Judd.

Oh, I know it has been cancelled. ;) Thank you anyways. I just wish the staff would answer me or at least add it. I mean, It is a 2012 show yet not on the "New Series" list so I am quite dumbfounded!

Sucks that the show with the second most votes git cancelled.

My votes for the best show goes to Copper, Arrow, Legend of Korra, Last Resort and Elementary.

Go On is by far the most polished of the new shows. Which is not really surprising considering it's a half hour with Matthew Perry.

I would also vote Avatar The Legend of Korra, Elementary, Awake (if it wasn't cancelled) and Arrow (because it is pretty awesome).

Arrow and Last Resort are getting enough votes, so I'm giving my three to:
Go On
Don't Trust the B
and Continuum.
(I know I'm allowed more than three, but I give myself a limit on these polls).

The best is The Neighbors, simply because it’s hilarious.

It’s a tough choice though; Last Resort, The New Normal and Revolution are not far behind! Oh, and also Touch—tough so far I’ve only seen the pilot, but it was amazing so it deserves to be mentioned!

With the exception of Friends alum Matthew Perry (who I also loved in studio 60) and Go On, i just noticed I've nominated all the top 5 choices for nominations thus far.
Man I am a tv nerd!!

Arrow (gritty and clever in comparison to smallville roots)
Hunted (great replacement for spooks / MI5 series)
Last Resort (promising but cancelled for some reason)
Continuum (we need a sci fi drama in this list somewhere)
The Newsroom (just can't wait for return date - hurry up Aaron Sorkin!)
*Elementary (anything with S Holmes gets my approval)*

just missing out where revolution (went wrong somewhere in delivery) and primeval new world (UK did it first is all).

How many times do they have to say this competition is for first-year shows?

They don't because the Legend of Korra is NOT a first year show (as mentioned in the list), it's still going on.
