Best of 2013: What Shows Would You Nominate for "Best NEW Series"?

The holiday decorations are up at the mall and the Black Friday sale emails are rolling in; on the internet, that means it's time to start thinking about year-end lists. Rest assured, we'll not only be compiling plenty of them—keep an eye out for our annual "Top 100 Everything" call for submissions at the end of next week—but we'll also be closing out the current 365-day span with a "Best of 2013" voting extravaganza.

And while we're already hard at work compiling this year's ballots, we'd like your help in selecting the nominees for some of the major categories!

First up, we have the "Best New Series" competition: Which new shows do you think deserve a nomination? Let us know by voting in the poll below—here are the basic rules:

1. The only criteria is that the show debuted in the U.S. in 2013.

2. This poll will remain open until Tuesday, November 26 at noon Pacific time.
3. Note that you can write in any potential nominees you don't see listed, but we'll be deleting any shows that don't qualify as "new."
4. We'll guarantee a spot on the ballot for the winning show.
5. Don't forget to check back in early December to find out who made the cut and vote for your favorite!

Hannibal, Orphan Black, Rectify and The Americans are my top new shows. But shout-outs to Bates Motel and Sleepy Hollow as well because they aren't the best new shows compared to the other four, but I enjoy them both tremendously.

As someone who runs my own poll like this, it is just easier for them to let it run its course & delete them at the end, than delete it now & have them re-nominated by another idiot who cant read.

All I can say is that with this impressive list, TV is in good hands.

Great breakout for fellow Canuck Tatiana Maslany in Orphan Black.

Going with The Blacklist on this, surprisingly satisfying. Almost Human could have stolen that vote if it had premiered a month ago, but I think Spader would have kept my vote on track.

Love that someone voted @Midnight though, good choice!

I'm inclined to give it to Rectify, Bates Motel or The Goodwin Games. while Almost Human has already had two very strong episodes, that's all it has had. and minka kelly's speech pattern is grating and wish she'd be killed off already. bates motel while not a tear jerker or anything has great character and plot development. Rectify was very solid all around, I just imagine most people might skip it over its slow pace. oh and the goodwin games was damn funny and touching. who knew the bitch from ugly betty could be nice and charming (maybe you did? I only saw a couple episodes.)

perception's second season certainly came back so strong one might think it was new or always that good but it's definitely not new...and its first season not as good.

I can find fairly substantial faults in every show I didn't list.

While Banshee and Orphan Black are also standouts, I would go for The Americans. There's a self-assuredness and confidence to it that makes it seem as if it has been on our screens for much longer than just a season.

Last season's best new show, that was sadly canceled, and debuted in April, How to Live with Your Parents (For the Rest of Your Life)!

It's Orange Is the New Black for me. I watched it in the span of a week, and while that doesn't seem like a very short amount of time, I stopped watching pretty much everything else I usually watch on a weekly basis to get through it, which is saying something.

Hannibal would be next, I'm so glad it's coming back for a second season.

All else this list does is pretty much remind me how long my list is of shows is that I want/ need to watch: Orphan Black, Almost Human (which I'll probably watch two episodes of today), Masters of Sex, and Banshee.

Yeah I've heard that. I want to see if Tatiana Maslany lives up to the hype, since everyone and their mother thought her not getting nominated for an Emmy was a travesty.

Forgive me for always dragging SoA into these conversations, but have you seen the episode yet?

4. Orphan Black

I have only seen one episode of Almost Human yet, so it's too early to tell if it belongs on the list. I still haven't seen Masters of sex.

Orphan Black had an amazing, original first season. For sure my choice. I also adored the Americans with its moral complexity, performances, and era detail. From this season, I am super impressed with Master's of Sex and the Returned. I liked Orange as Black but the real fun surprises this season for me have been Sleepy Hollow and Reign. Both are insane and play loose with history but are filled with strong acting, and good writing. I am surprised that so many strong series have debuted over the last year

This is though! Despite dissapointing fall and summer seasons, this year has broughts us many awesome series. I remember when the year started everybody was hyped about The Americans, but later Orphan Black stole the spotlight. Then, Netflix came in and gave us House of Cards and OITNB to talk about. During fall, we have the brilliant Masters of Sex and some network gems. And we cant forget about other series that surprised us: Rectify, The Returned, Hannibal, Da Vinci's Demons...

Orphan Black without a doubt.
I mean there are so many to choose from but — 7 characters. 1 actress? All different?
It was the BEST thing that I saw on television this year. Hands down.

How about:
Rectify
Orange is the New Black
The Americans
Orphan Black
House of Cards
Masters of Sex

Those are the standout ones.

The Americans, but Orphan Black is a close second. I love how many layers are in The Americans. There are so many potential storylines and I found each episode to be intriguing and waiting for it to come back is literally the only thing keeping me going since Breaking Bad ended. Orphan Black is great too, if for no other reason than watching Tatianna act. She is so good. And Alison is one of my favorite characters across all of television.

I am someone who love to list my favorite things. I have my own weekly list of favorite show/episode of the week. Here is my favorite BEST NEW SHOW of 2013 !

1. HOUSE OF CARDS
2. THE AMERICANS
3. RECTIFY
4. ORPHAN BLACK
5. DATES (I know this does not qualify cause I do not think it was shown in the US). I highly recommend for those who have not watch it. It starred Game of Thrones Oona Chaplin for those who miss her.
6. The Fall (This should qualify right? I think one US channel did showed it?)
7. MASTER OF SEX
8. BANSHEE
9. THE BRIDGE
10. BATES MOTEL
11. THE TOMORROW PEOPLE
12. DEVIOUS MAIDS
13. HANNIBAL
14. RAY DONAVAN
15. THE FOSTERS
16. MISTRESS
17. GRACELAND
18. ORANGE IS THE NEW BLACK
19. ZERO HOUR (Its gets good after the 4th episode when they already cancelled it)
20. THE MOB DOCTER (I liked MOB series)

I also enjoyed ROGUE and HUNTED (Both which I doubt they will be a second season), Reality series THE HERO by THE ROCK, Capture (The CW) and WHODUNNIT

I excluded ALMOST HUMAN as it is only 2 episode old and too early to tell where to rank it.

Most disappointing series

1, Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D
2, Hemlock Grove
3. VEGAS
4. LOW WINTER SUN

Most disappointing series and I will still come back and be disappointed again (I know it sound strange)

1. Under the Dome
2. The Following

The SERIES that was CANCELLED but I hope the show the whole series : LUCKY 7 (I don't really care about the other cancelled shows)

Hmm...doubt I missed out anything ! Yes I watch too much TV.

Yes to The Fall! Can't wait for the next season.Gillian Anderson is simply outstanding (my X-Files era crush back in full force), and Jamie Dornan's performance is a wonderfully sinister counterpoint to his sweet, dearly-departed Sheriff Graham in OUAT.

(Why he would undo all that hard work and credibility by agreeing to appear in 50 Shades of Grey is beyond me, but that's the subject for another post)

Yes Jamie Dornan is really good enough for an acting TV award. Maybe the BAFTA for 2013. Well, 50 shades of grey is a movie so its a step up for him I guess.

Best New Show I'd say would be Masters of Sex. Reign would be my surprise of the season. Really am enjoying that.
