The Best Show on Every Network as of Right Now (Summer 2014)

Your cable guide can be a scary place. So many channels! So many options! So much garbage!

That's why I've taken it upon myself to help you make sense of it all by naming the best show on every network as of right now—late July, 2014.

In assembling this incredible source of information that will be stored forever on the internet and cited in future generations' Television History papers for years to come, I considered the following criteria:

– Original programming only! (Except in cases where a network's original programming is so bad that I had no choice but to select a rerun of a movie.)

– Every show listed must be part of its network's current lineup, but it's okay if a series is between seasons.

That's it!

And now, here's my rundown of the best shows on all the major-ish networks, presented without explanation.

Note: I suppose there's a SLIGHT chance that your opinions may differ from mine; if that's the case, why don't you share your own list in the comments?

I actually don't watch much current TV anymore, and almost nothing during the summer (I use that time to catch up on my reading :) ), but here are the shows that I would expect to see in at least some top lists, if not most.

HBO: Game of Thrones. Nuff said. :)
NBC: Grimm. Honestly, I'm surprised this isn't on more lists. I know that both Person Of Interest and Hannibal have a great reputation, and having not seen either of them, I'm totally unqualified to say whether they are better than Grimm or not... but Grimm, which got off to a very rocky start in S1, has been getting progressively better ever since, and now it's almost as addictive as Buffy was in its heyday. That's really high praise! I would have thought it would, at least, get votes from the same people who voted for Criminal Minds or Supernatural.
ABC: Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Again, rocky start, but once Winter Soldier came out and they were actually able to get an ongoing plot rolling, it was awesome.

P.S. I forgot to comment on CW, sure generally there's nothing there. But the one clear stand out show they do have is Arrow.

"AMC: Egad! The Walking Dead I guess because I don't like Mad Men"

Really? Nothing on AMC interests you in the bit?

The clear choice is The Walk Dead, but there are other great programs, sure Breaking Bad is over but you still have Sons of Anarchy, Halt and Catch Fire.

Bob's Burgers, yeah, no thanks. I still don't know how that got picked up for another season.

NBC: Hannibal & Blacklist...I love James Spader and Mads Mikkelsen.

Several of the show's i won't agree with but the one i'll call total BS on is CW's the 100. Really how the hell can you call that show the best the network has to offer it was marginally decent enough to keep my interest. Arrow has done it for 3 season in story and ratings. Better check on that one again.

I agree with your entire ended canceled list. Almost human could have went another season but i understand it didnt' quite have the draw. Intelligence had the story and character interaction to keep going. It was probably just too much money to keep going when they could make something else cheaper and scrap it. SG=1 and Atlantis with be favorites for a long time as well.

I take it you heard that they are "maybe" doing a remake of Stargate from the movie point of view not the T.V. show ?
Reply
Flag
Hopefully IF they do it then it'll be a different storyline. I believe in leaving classics like that alone. So many times they treat those movies like a business opportunity and ruin them as a way to purely make some quick money and hopefully start a trilogy out of them.
1

With all the hear-say going around about this trilogy it sounds like they will reboot the whole movie and start from scratch.

Hawaii Five-0 is, was and always will be spelled with a number 0.

Not true. The original series was spelled with the letter O, it's only the remake that's spelled with the number 0.

In the show they say O not 0 (zero) and I think every one going all the way back to when Jack Lord was in it said five-O.
