Vincent Pastore--known as "Big Pussy" to Sopranos fans--made a court appearance on Thursday, June 30, in regard to assault charges being pressed against him by Lisa Regina, a former girlfriend.
Pastore was arrested earlier this year on accusations of physically assaulting Regina while they argued in a car. Regina contends that he punched her in the back of the head, grabbed her hair, and slammed her head into the vehicle's gearshift.
Prosecutors offered Pastore a plea bargain that would assign him to 10 days of community service and participation in a domestic abuse program and that would require him to comply with a court order of protection for Regina. Pastore insists that he is innocent and refused to accept the deal, which would require him to plead guilty to misdemeanor assault.
The judge set a trial date of September 26, 2005, giving Pastore until then to change his mind and accept the plea offer. If he still refuses, he'll face two counts of misdemeanor assault and one count each of attempted assault and harassment. A conviction on all four counts could send Pastore to jail for up to one year.
Pastore's lawyer will give no hints as to whether or not the actor will rethink his decision and accept the deal.
