Blog Spotlight: Parks and Recreation "Pilot" Review

Michael Scott is no David Brent and Leslie Knope, the star of NBC's Parks and Recreation, premiering tonight, is no Michael Scott. This is why it what will probably attract the most viewers--P&R;'s "don't call it an Office spin-off" status--and may be the hardest hurdle to leap as it stretches its legs.

Leslie Knope, played spectacularly by the human ball of joy we call Amy Poeheler, is the head of the Parks and Recreation Dept. of Pawnee, Indiana. We follow her and her band of outsiders as they try to provoke (or for some of them, postpone) the town's improvement. Knope's fellow employee's run the gamut from the politically apathetic, sexually empathetic Tom Haverford (Aziz Ansari) to the anti-government, pro-guns Nick Offerman (Ron Swanson) to the sulky, somber college intern April Ludgate (Aubrey Plaza).
