Blog Spotlight: The No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency on HBO

The new HBO series The No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency, which debuts with a two-hour premiere at 8 p.m. Sunday, March 29, should be a winner.

Beautifully filmed, beautifully acted and with a source material that it honors.

The series will be shown at 8 p.m. Sundays on HBO with frequent encores.

As readers worldwide know, The No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency is based on the charming, yet thought-provoking series of novels by Alexander McCall Smith.

I have long thought these best-selling novels about Precious Ramotswe, the Botswanan divorcee turned private investigator, would make an excellent TV series or movie.

I also have long thought that for these novels to work on screen they would have to be filmed for either HBO, Showtime or PBS. Or maybe one of the cable networks such as USA or A&E.; Read more

This is my favourite show and I am anxiously awaiting the second season. The cast is excellent and faithfully portray the characters in the books. The secretary - pardon me - assistant detective is especially outstanding. It is also beautifully filmed and it is great that we see a series filmed in Africa. szuzarte

My book club read the books a few years ago of "The No 1 Ladies Detective agency", and thought the HBO series was great. We fell in love with the characters all over again. Its a great cast of Actors that really make the stories come alive on the screen. We look forward to the second season. Great series and we have watched season one at least 5 times already. Love the accents, the actors really is a great cast.
