Bob Barker announces retirement

In June, The Price Is Right host Bob Barker will tell someone to "come on down" for the last time. Barker today announced he will retire from TV.

"I will be 83 years old on December 12, and I've decided to retire while I'm still young," he joked with the Associated Press

Barker has been host of The Price Is Right for 35 years and has been on TV for another 15 years on top of that. He says he has been thinking about retirement for many years, but he was having too much fun to stop.

"I've gone on and on and on to this ancient age because I've enjoyed it," he said. "I've thoroughly enjoyed it and I'm going to miss it."

Who will be the new host?

I kind of agree with koenig ... it is hard to imagine anyone else as the Host. But, alas...change is evident. I cannot imagine anyone else in his place, yet I cannot imagine a world without the Price is Right! I watch it every day. I will give it a chance though, having an open mind. But it will be hard to watch it without Mr. Bob. But when Rod died, I certainly didn't think I would like it then, either. In fact, I did stop watching for awhile, but I couldn't stay away.

I think The Price is Right should be retired with Bob Barker. It won't be the same without him, and he's been THE host of the show for 35 years. That's a long run for a show.

I've never been a fan of the show "The Price Is Right" but Bob will be missed. There's no one that can replace him, he's simply the best. Best of Luck Bob Barker!! If the show continues, it will never be the same.

The show may go on, but it will never be the same! Some games, like Hole in one or two would have to be retired!

The author of this item did not do his homework; although if you have lived on this planet for any amount of time, you know Bob ain't the one calling the names on TPIR.

Bob is looking pretty good for 83, bet he'll miss all those young thangs kissin on him too. Won't be the same without him.

sad just so sad to see. The price is right is going to end probably.Or if they get a new host. But mindless to say it wont be the same. And the show will be done with. Then Jeopardy will came victory over haveing the longest game show run. I wished i could have been a contestant on this show. I was so close too.

I hope they replace him with another living gameshow legend such as Woolry, and not some garbage washed up sitcom star.

Bob Barker doesn't call contestants to the stage. The announcer does. Johnny Olson (1972-1985) and Rod Roddy (1991-2003) have both held that position. Currently, Rich Fields is the announcer and calls contestants to the stage by saying "Come on down!"

The show won't be the same without Bob Barker. :(

As a lifelong fan of the show and someone who grew up watching Bob and the show on a whenever I can basis, this news is such an initial shock and brings some sadness to me. It will be pretty hard to watch his final show and think about someone else besides Bob hosting the show. At least he is leaving on his own terms and not because of a forced retirement, his health, or another factor.

I think Bob Barker is great. I remember him hosting other games shows such as "Truth or Consequences", but I think he should have retired 10 years ago.

  • Superrobb22

Bob Barker rules and I don't think anyone will be able to properly replace him. Bob Barker doesn't tell people to come on down like the article said. Isn't that Rod Roddy/Rich Fields' job?

Wonder who will take his place if the show continues?

Sounds like it's time to create Bob Barker in CGI so the show will love on and continue to use his voice from previous episodes. In fact I thought it's been the CGI Bob for the past five years!
