Body count piles up for City Homicide

City Homicide's back on the beat.

Our television screens have never been so safe. There are cops, paramedics and emergency services everywhere you look. Standby for more because City Homicide is back on the beat from Monday August 10th.

This season there are at least two new cast members joining the team, while some of the regulars take a little time out.

Joining are Nadia Townsend, who has appeared in Head Start, Fireflies both for the ABC, as well as the feature film Knowing. She will play Detective Senior Constable Allie Kingston, described as "outspoken, strong, impulsive, feisty". That's pretty clear cut!

Kingston will be looking to make an impression on the Homicide squad. But when Inspector Waverley (Noni Hazelhurst) returns she will find herself at odds with her superior.

Townsend also comes to the Seven show with quite a bit of pedigree -- her dad Simon hosted the famous kids show, Wonder World on TEN for many years.

Also joining a little later is actor John Adam, who has appeared in Home and Away, Water Rats, All Saints, Always Greener and Underbelly.

He joins as Detective Senior Constable Nick Buchanan, described as "straight-talking, calm, respectful, tough, focussed".

Buchanan is an experienced detective, who has struggled to deal with the emotional challenges of the Homicide division -- and he has a past with Jennifer Mapplethorpe (Nadine Garner).

Meanwhile all the regulars, Shane Bourne, Daniel MacPherson, Nadine Garner, Aaron Pedersen, Damien Richardson, David Field and Noni Hazelhurst are all back, some more frequently than others. While Hazelhurst and Pedersen have been busy with other projects, Nadine Garner has been busy getting ready for her second child (expect to see her sitting down a lot this season!).

Tasma Walton, aka Mrs Rove McManus, is also continuing as a series regular as a psychologist and police profiler.

Writers John Banas and John Hugginson, who spectacularly wrote all of the first series themselves (a rarity in Aussie drama), have now added a few more writers to the slate, to keep up with the show's expanded workload.

Now in its third season, the show has surely come a long way from the days when the network rejected the first pilot and cast, and nearly didn't proceed with the show at all!

City Homicide returns on Seven in a double episode at 8:30pm on Monday, August 10th.
