Breaking In Renewed for Second Season?

There's interesting stories of shows getting back on the air, and then there's Breaking In. Fox is this close to ordering a second season of the comedy, according to Deadline Hollywood [UPDATE: it's official, 13 episodes in 2012], despite canceling the show during its first-season run.

Despite having a big name in Christian Slater toplining it, Breaking In had a rough road to the airwaves. Fox initially passed on the pilot, but later changed its mind and ordered seven episodes as a midseason entry. It did merely fine in the plush spot after American Idol before seeing a giant ratings dip when it went off on its own. Fox then decided not to renew the show, but the studio behind it never gave up and extended the contracts of its cast, which also includes Bret Harrison (Reaper) and Odette Annable, who just signed on as a regular for House. Now, Fox is eyeing Breaking In as one of four shows its planning for a Tuesday night comedy block next midseason.

Under the deal, Breaking In creator Adam F. Goldberg will also work on a new comedy for the network. The show will be a semi-autobiographical look at a "highly screwed up but loving family."

Though I'm not sure it's technically correct, Deadline says Breaking In is the only show other than Family Guy to survive cancellation twice.

My question is: Is this a good decision? On the "no it certainly isn't" side, Breaking In didn't generate a huge audience. On the "of course it is" side, it did generate a loyal (albeit small) fan base. But the biggest reason I think it's not a bad move by Fox? The crop of new comedies coming out this year is HORRIBLE, and Breaking In is as good as (if not better than) all of 'em.
