Currently in pre-production, Southern Star Entertainment will begin filming the 10-episode series early in the new year.
In keeping with the original UK format, the Australian You Have Been Watching will see comedians and other notable TV personalities ponder questions about the most outrageous and interesting shows -- both nationally and around the globe.
With several successful hosting credits including Einstein Factor, BackBerner and the 2004 AFI Awards, as well as radio programs "The Cage" and "The Peter Berner Experiment" on Triple M, Peter Berner is definitely the man for the job.
Despite being infamous for his cynicism, Berner seems enthusiastic about the upcoming project.
"I wasn't sure if the show The Comedy Channel was planning to do was a cooking show or a dancing show or dancing cooks or dancing cops who cook or extreme dancing fishermen or ice road chefs having instant makeovers ... it turns out it's all of them. I get to watch telly and go to work with funny people. What's not to like?" said Berner.
And while the show sounds promising, the network seems just a tad cocky about how well it will perform.
"Who said comedy is the toughest genre to crack?" said The Comedy Channel general manager Alex Ristevski. "All you need are three simple things -- a great format, great producers and great talent. The hardest part is deciding whether you should turn up to collect your Logie."
There is definitely potential for the program to do well, but it will be a while before anyone has to make the seemingly difficult decision on whether they'll show up to collect the Logie.
You Have Been Watching (Australia) will premiere 9:30pm Thursday, February 17 on The Comedy Channel.
