Brooke Satchwell in Mumbai chaos

Brooke Satchwell

Actress Brooke Satchwell is one of a number of Australians caught in the terrorist attacks in Mumbai.

The Neighbours and Canal Road star is believed to be one of a party of eight Australians staying near the Taj Mahal Hotel, which was burning following attacks overnight.

Satchwell and her boyfriend, editor David Gross, both told Nine News of their terrifying ordeal at their hotel.

"As I stepped inside the bathroom, gunshots started to go off," Satchwell said, "and they were in the lobby just outside. There was probably about six of us in the bathroom. Everybody froze. Then adrenalin kicked in and it became pretty clear what was going on.

"We waited 45 minutes to an hour with gunshots going around. Some of the staff were going out the door which was a little terrifying. There were people getting shot in the corridor. There was someone dead outside the bathroom. About 45 minutes later some of the hotel officials came in and shepherded us out," she said.

"Next thing I knew I was running down the stairs and there were a couple of dead bodies across the stairs."

Satchwell said she ran up the street where she bumped into an American tourist.

"It became very clear that it wasn't very safe and foreigners were a strong target. So we went into another hotel," she said.

Satchwell told Nine News she managed to make her way back to her party, and like other westerners, is waiting for the situation to calm.

The attacks may also throw the Champions Twenty20 League matches into a spin. Set to air on Channel TEN in December, Cricket Australia says it's put an immediate halt on plans for Australian cricketers to travel to India.

Thank Goodness she's safe. I stay in Mumbai, and I know how traumatic the entire attack was. Some say it was intended to be India's 9/11. But, I beg to differ, this was much worse. For 60 hours, all the mumbaikars, and the entire India was glued to tthe TV, wondering when all this will be over. It was like a 60 hour horror movie... a torture to all of us.Many people died, many innocents, and many in the line of duty, my heart rreaches to all of them, especially the ones who became orphans or lost their family in the firings. I've been talking and talking.. and talking about all of this. If anyone wants to know anything, ya'll can ask me. I hope such a thing never happens again. It's been a terrible experience for all of us.Salaam Mumbai!moreless
