Former Pretty Baby star Brooke Shields gave birth to a pretty baby girl on Tuesday, April 18, her publicist announced. Shields and husband Chris Henchy named the 7-pound girl Grier Hammond Henchy.
Henchy and Shields already have a 3-year-old daughter, Rowan. Shields, who starred in the sitcom Suddenly Susan from 1996-2000, wrote about her battle with postpartum depression and her use of antidepressants in her 2005 book Down Came the Rain: My Journey Through Postpartum Depression.
The admission drew the wrath of Scientologist actor Tom Cruise, who publicly criticized her for taking the prescription drugs and said there was no such thing as depression. Cruise's remarks drew condemnation from the American Psychiatric Association.
Shields wrote a blistering retort in the op-ed page of The New York Times, saying, "I'm going to take a wild guess and say that Mr. Cruise has never suffered from postpartum depression."
Ironically, Shields' and Henchy's baby arrived the same day as Cruise and fiance Katie Holmes gave birth to their daughter, Suri.
