Brothers and Sisters Might Survive, But With Cuts

... ABC, like all the major networks, is currently making final decisions about its schedule, and one show that's dangling precipitously off the edge is Brothers & Sisters. But word is that ABC is trying to save the show... with a few cuts. The idea is to bring the show back for a final, 18-episode season, and to keep the budget at a reasonable level by cutting down the screen time of one of its stars: Calista Flockhart. ... The American edition of The X Factor sure is going to seem British. Simon Cowell has signed Cheryl Cole to join him on the judge's panel of the upcoming Fox show, just as last month's rumors said would happen. She's well deserving of the high-profile spot, because she's hot. [Fox, via press release]

... The fight for Katie Couric will likely be won by ABC, which is throwing tons of cash at the former CBS Evening News host for her services. Apparently the current plan is to give Couric her own daytime talk show at the cost of General Hospital, which would be canceled. Now that's drama! [TMZ]

... CBS' The Good Wife is booking another guest star from HBO's The Wire. Seth Gilliam, who played Carver on the lauded cop show, will appear in an upcoming episode as a man who's on trial for murdering a judge. This will be the 12th actor from The Wire to guest-star on The Good Wife. [TV Line]

... Chelsea Handler's After Lately, an improv'd mockumentary that goofs off on her real late-night talk show, has been renewed for a second season by E! Watch out, Oprah! This woman is getting closer and closer to taking over the world. [Deadline Hollywood]

... A sad farewell to former child actor Jackie Cooper, who has died at the age of 89. Cooper appeared in Little Rascals (also known as Our Gang), and received a Best Actor nomination for the movie Skippy at the age of 9, becoming the youngest actor ever to do so. He later starred in the Superman movies as the editor of The Daily Planet. [E! Online]

I'd rather watch General Hospital than another talk show, especially another news-related talk show.

Could not agree more with the already mentioned sporadic screen time Calista's been getting this season already. How are they gonna shrink that? And all in all I hope B&S makes it - because we want a decent ending and since there's been talk about this is the last season, the writers could prepare a long time ago. But maybe they knew that one more season is ahead - otherwise i can't explain the cliffhanger everybody is talking about for this seasons end.

I hope Brothers & Sisters will make it, it's one of my favorite shows. I can't see how they're going to cut Calista Flockhart's screen time as she's hardly been seen this season.

I’d be fine with an abbreviated final season of Brothers & Sisters. Anything to give us a proper ending. They say it ends with a cliffhanger this year, and I’ll be upset if the end of Brothers & Sisters leaves us hanging. Us fans have stuck with the show this long. Don’t do that to us. There had been talk all along about this being the final season, so I really don’t see why the creators didn’t plan for this and write a proper series finale. So yeah, I definitely hope it’s brought back for one more. A shortened season would probably serve it best.

So ABC will drop General Hospital to give Couric a talk show, which will likely not last more than a year. Although I don't really care since I tend not to watch any daytime shows.
