Buffy staking out new movie?

What happened?

Good news, Buffy the Vampire Slayer fans! Things are looking better for a possible Buffy movie! But here's the bad news: it probably will look nothing like what you are hoping for.

Vertigo Entertainment is in talks with the husband-and-wife team of Kaz Kuzui and Fran Rubel Kuzui to relaunch the Buffy franchise on the big screen--where it all started, says The Hollywood Reporter. Vertigo approached the Kazuis (Fran directed the original Buffy the Vampire Slayer movie) because they own the rights to the Buffy license and also produced the television show and its spinoff Angel.

The new film would not be a prequel or sequel, but a reboot of the series, like Batman Returns was for the dated Batman movie franchise.

It also (so far) doesn't involve popular scribe Joss Whedon, which is likely to cause more than a few groans from the Whedonites. Another point of contention among fans of the TV show will be the exclusion of supporting characters such as Spike, Angel, Willow, or Xander.

But that's the whole idea of the relaunch; the new film will exist in the same universe without tinkering with the events and characters played out by the television show.

What say you, Buffy fans. Is any Buffy movie better than no Buffy movie at all?

Another TV SERIES of Buffy the Vampire Slayer would be awesome, but NOT a movie. It was a great show and it would be great for more people to have the opportunity to appreciate it like so many others, as well as myself got to. I WISH WE COULD HAVE GREAT SHOWS LIKE WE HAD THEN.... I guess I took it for granted.

Please don't make this movie! Would rather not have one at all if Joss and the cast from the show are not involved. Leave it alone! Dumb dumb dumb dumb dumb....

What is with all the remakes these days? Classic movies don't need an improvement or and update. That is why they get the right to be called classics. If you are going to do a remake then please let someone who helpped write the origial have a major hand in it. It's like when you see someone struggling with there kid in public. You talk to the parent about some parenting tips you have that may help to improve the situation. You don't steal the baby and try to make it better than it was. So Hollywood, please stop taking our babies away, or before you know there will be remade remakes and no original thought will ever be brought to light again.

Buffy does NOT need a reboot. A movie based on the show with the same characters(not necessarily the same actors) would be fine with me. But a whole reboot? Now is not the time. Buffy was a popular show and it ended well. Things that need reboots are shows/movies from over 20years ago.It is too soon for a Buffy reboot. The fact that Whedon won't be involved makes this appear to be a complete failure and probably will be with fans of the Buffy and Angel series.

Sarah Michelle Gellar or any of the other actors would never agree to have any part in this. Doing this "remake" would be a disgrace.

It seemed to be a good idea if the actors/actress's from the buffy series where involved along with joss whedon. They however, dont seem to be at this point and therefore as a beloved fan of Buffy for many years i will watch the movie and watch as it crashes without the interlect and artistic mind of the once great beclaimed maker of joss whedon. Buffy isnt buffy without buffy, angel, xander, willow, giles and the actors/actresses who played them for 7 years.

What the hell are they thinking? What is Buffy without her friends and occasional enemies? I loved the series but the character of Buffy needs these supporting characters - as to be honest - even when played by the Gellarmeister she can be a bit of a charisma free zone. Wisecracks present and correct but the warmth comes from the likes of Spike, Giles, Willow, Xander etc.

It seems like such a bad idea after all wasn't it them that made the original movie such a mess in the first place by deviating from the script of the guy who created Buffy joss whedon. Ignoring the drama to make the lame unfunny crap we got that almost killed Buffy.

Whatever happened to the so called "Watcher" spinoff? I reckon this could have been a fantastic show! The Buffy & Angel series finished off nicely, don't mess with them!!!

No Joss Whedon? No Angel? No Spike? No Faith? No Willow? No Xander? No Giles? The first movie sucked. The TV show was great. Forget another sucky movie. Give us another Buffyverse TV show.

Its too soon to reboot the Buffy francise and I am NOT gonna watch a Buffy movie without Sarah Michelle Geller, she NEEDS to be in it (she IS Buffy). I think it would be better to have the original TV series cast but if not then at least have SMG & Joss Whedon involved in some aspect. The best thing to do is do a Buffy movie with the TV cast and then after like 10-15 yrs they can reboot it.

I got so excited! Until I started reading the article. I am a HUGE Buffy fan. I liked the movie and I LOVE the series, but to tell you the truth, I am not gonna buy a ticket to this movie. I love Buffy, but I like the series more and if the movie is without Xander,Willow,Giles then this movie will not survive. Also to make a movie without Joss???? Well that is wrong! He made Buffy modern and amazing. He is the secret ingredient of Buffy and without the secret ingredient well then it won't be good. I'm sorry, but I would rather have no Buffy movie. :(

It's a really bad time to spend millions of dollars on a movie in a masterpiece series, which only half of the gigantic fanbase would touch if they were paid for it. Do it right or don't even bother.

Buffy without Joss?I dont think so

  • Lanevsky

MOVIE WITH: BUFFY, WILLOW, XANDER AND GILES THE MAIN CHATACTERS, IF THEY'RE NOT IN THE MOVIE IT WON'T WORTH THE TIME TO FILM IT, BESIDES IT MUST BE AN AFTER WHAT HAPPENED IN "CHOSEN", LIKE THE SEASON 8 THAT IT'S BEING PUBLISHED IN COMIC, IF JOSS WHEDON IS NOT INVOLVED IN THIS FILM, THE MOVIE IS GOING TO FAIL, FANS WANT A FOLLOWING HISTORY, WE DON'T WANT AN "ALTERNATIVE" HISTORY THAT NEVER EXISTED!!!

  • Placebo_obecalP

Whedon's Buffy IS Buffy, the first movie was cheesy 80s trash, a Buffy without Whedon is not a Buffy that I have any interest in, simple as that.

It is way to soon for a Buffy movie made by other people. Joss is still doing the comics so the Buffy universe is still alive and kicking. They need to wait a long time to try this one and have it done right...

If done with vision a reboot can work, like Batman begans, but if done just to make a buck$$, it will go straight to DVD-HELL. I mean a bad movie can make it a week with good marketing, but now with all the industry leaks, a bootleg copy hits the streets right before the premire, with that a review is online. Also the show has a great following, it needs to be done right, reboot or not.

This is indeed the worst idea in the history of civilization (other than giving 43 a second chance). Why would they even bother? It's not like most of the people who made it a show worth watching aren't available. Last I heard of Joss Whedon, he was making comic books. Last I heard of SMG, she was making ... "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" TV shows. Last I heard of Spike, same thing. Last I heard of Xander, he was playing the gay best friend in a made-for-an-unwatched-basic-cable-channel movie, which is almost exactly the same character. Angel, Willow and Dawn might be harder to get, but COME ON! A "Buffy" movie with the TV cast would not only revive quite a few careers, but would make a ton of money. Just look at "Twilight." If a movie from a book whose writer had wonderfully, refreshingly creative ideas but had almost no grasp of how to make the English language readable, a script that was even worse, and a female star with ZERO acting ability and who negated everything likable and endearing about the book's Bella could succeed so wonderously, a "Buffy" movie would absolutely KILL at the box office.moreless
