Smile! TV Land Is Reviving Candid Camera

TV Land is developing a reputation for being the network where stars of screens past can revive their careers. Kirstie Alley stars in Kirstie; Valerie Bertinelli, Jane Leeves, and Wendie Malick star in Hot in Cleveland (Betty White also stars in Hot in Cleveland, but she's excluded because she can do whatever she wants); and Donald Faison, Leah Remini, and Wayne Knight star in The Exes. And now TV Land is giving a real dinosaur of a show another shot: Candid Camera.

TV Land announced today that it's rebooting the iconic hidden-camera prank show that used to make your grandma pee her granny panties when it debuted in 1948 (yes, they had cameras back then). It was the original Punk'd, created and hosted by Allen Funt; Funt's son Peter, who co-hosted several Candid Camera specials and a CBS revival of the series in the '80s and '90s, will co-host the new TV Land version. Peter will also serve as an executive producer, along with former NBC boss Ben Silverman.

TV Land has ordered 10 episodes of Candid Camera, which it plans to air this summer. An additional co-host will be announced at a later date.

And now, for a hint of what's ahead, here's some classic Candid Camera!

Is a Candid Camera remake something that television needs? Will you watch?

Of all the old programs to revive, this one still has appeal, so long as Ashton Kutcher stays far away. I'm ok with this.

"Peter will also serve as an executive producer, along with former NBC boss Ben Silverman."

Good God, has Ben ever been involved in anything that was original?

Candid Camera was good in it's day but now we have YouTube. And DVRs. Candid Camera worked because of the way TV worked, but TV has changed. And the way people behave has changed because they know they're being watched when out in public.

And, once again, we see that the tv show producers have run out of new ideas. Howabout stopping with the 'reality' crap, and get back to REAL tv.

Yeah, you know what? No. It's enough, these shows have run way out of steam. The last time I laughed at one was this review of "Candid Candid Camera":

You're all on candid camera right now.....so put your pants back up.But seriously,a reboot is not necessary especially without Allen Funt.I grew up with reruns of this series and would be more interested in seeing the reruns again, kinda like I'm doing these days watching reruns of Match Game '73.Funny then, funny now.
