Carey to spin Price is Right

The price was right for Drew Carey. The comedian has been named the new host of the long-running game show The Price is Right, ending months of speculation of who would take over the post.

Carey will have some big shoes to fill as he takes over for one of the most famous game-show hosts in show business, Bob Barker. Barker announced his retirement in October of last year and wrapped up his 35-year run as host last month.

The rotund comedian was a late entry into the race for the job, only recently having his name thrown into the hat once CBS got serious about finding a successor. Carey was rumored to be up against several others for the highly coveted job, including George Hamilton, Entertainment Tonight host Mark Steines, veteran game-show host Todd Newton, and Rosie O'Donnell.

Hosting the game show shouldn't be too much of a problem for Carey, who will preside over Power of 10 when it officially debuts in early August on CBS. The comedian is also known for hosting the American version of Whose Line is it Anyway? and The Drew Carey Show.

I don't think that Drew Carey will ever understand nor be able to explain the games. All he cares about is showing how ignorant he is and how he can't stand upright without leaning on some object.

Drew Carey is better than Bob Barker.

Drew Carey is better than Bob Barker or Rosie O'Donnell. The Price Is Right will go on forever in daytime as far as I am concerned. Go, Drew!

I'm not the biggest fan of the Drew Carey, but I certainly could not imagine him as host of The Prices Right....he is toooooo GOOFY!

Drew Carey is a joke! He has no talent, he's weak as a "side-kick" and I am sadly not surprised that CBS chose him. They seem to go for cheap talent over great actors...and that makes me sad. Why couldn't they have offered Bob's job to someone worthy, Like Tom Bergeron?! ...I guess ABC owns him :-(

I only watched P.I.R. with my mother when I was a kid. I don.t think she will be happy but I believe he is might have a chance to make it work. I am glad that Rosie did not get it to destroy.

he will do a great job

  • Lt_J_Dangle

If Rosie would have gotten the job I would have NEVER watched again.

  • dmfaust

Carey was pretty much the only real choice. Anyone else either doesn't have the name recognition or would simply ruin it completely.

    Jul 26, 2007
  • VanGriffin

This is probably the best choice they could make. I'm happy because Carey will keep the Price alive and well for a long time. Did anyone seriously think it would be Rosie?

    Jul 26, 2007
  • darthzew

That's actually a darned good idea, he's no Bob Barker, but he'll do a good job.

  • Evil_Dead_Ash

I hope they're not planning on paying Carey anything for his awful work. It would be like thanking criminals for robbing you.
    Worst...host...ever

He seems like he'll be a great host, although not quite as good as Bob Barker. I'll have to see Power of 10.

  • Torish_Sisko

Wow, this is really turning kinds cliché but, Thank god it isn't Rosie. CBS had to pick an amorphous blob and I think they picked the right one.

  • PTL1954

I see it lasting one season at best then gone. Oh well maybe CBS should just retire the show anyway.

it had to go to somebody right, at least it's somebody I know. Reruns of the last few years wouldn't be too bad.

There will never again be another Bob Barker (50 years, 5 days-a-week). Geesh. Love the guy. But on to Drew. I have a very good feeling about this choice. He always seems like a very genuine person with a natural sense of humor. He's not a loud comedian in the Robin Williams "look at me" mold, so he won't turn TPIR into some sort of hour long stand-up bit. I think this is a very good choice. Good luck to Drew!

Man im so glad they got rid of Barker i perfer Drew Carey to Bob and Rosie any day. I don't know why but i thought Bob Barker had a stuck up attitude which i did not like. Drew is a fun looking person and is a funny guy with background history in hosting so i think he will be perfect. Hopefully he becomes the longest running Game Show Host in History on TPiR.

the show will last 1 season and then poof gone. people are not going to be wearing "I came to the price is right to kiss Drew" ???? lol. if rosie was on ratings would be so high imagine someone say something worths a bunch of dollars over she'll be like critizing them... it would've been hilarious.

Drew has a "man in the street" appeal which I think will serve him well in this venture. He seemed to do OK on "Whose Line Is It Anyway?" and we haven't seen him on "Power of Ten" yet, but the brass at CBS has and they must have liked what they saw. As long as he stay loose and real I can't see him having any trouble pulling it off.

I did not realise that Drew's career was hurting that much that he had to resort to hosting "THE PRICE IS RIGHT"?

    Jul 24, 2007

I think Drew is better liked by the older segment of this shows audience, so it should be a good move by CBS.

I think he can do a good job with it.
